rem, laserdiscs indeed have an analog video signal. However the audio component is digital (same format as CDs, IIRC).

I would be interested in hearing your opinion of DVD-Audio or SACD to see if they have the warmth you enjoy with vinyl.

I've only been able to read about it as I don't have the money or desire to get it yet. At least not until they start releasing more titles in either of those formats. It seems they have to rerelease all the same old classic rock CDs as SACD/DVD-A. I mean how many times can you listen to Dark Side of the Moon?

I love to audition speakers in listening rooms, but to be honest, I haven't even bothered with SACD or DVD-A because I know I'm not going to be getting it for a while. How about you? Have you got it yet? What equipment do you run it with if you don't mind me asking?

    drwtsn32,

Ah, yeah, you are right. There are two tracks for digital audio on 'modern' laserdiscs, though they still contain the two legacy analog audio tracks that were standard on the original format. The analog audio tracks are rarely used anymore - sometimes the director's commentary is recorded there. I'm not sure what the quality is like for the old analog audio tracks.

Nope, I do not have a player that will do either SACD or DVD-A. I have heard DTS encoded CDs though. They're supposed to be better than regular CDs but I don't recall the bitrate.
