Are They Losing the Old, Too?

You know, as soon as I posted that I thought "oh, for Pete's sake, you'd probably just be setting yourself up to be abused by OLD JWs, who have nothing better to do." So I'm sorry. That was probably fatuous of me. But it still makes me sad that these people dodder off in the sunset lost and alone precisely because they were faithful all their lives to an organization that values only itself.

Yes, kgfreeperson, neyank is correct. If an elderly witness knew they were being visited by XJWs, they'd have a massive fear attack, because XJWs are Satan incarnate - those XJWS have turned their backs on jehovah's visible earthly organization and all their kindness and good deeds are engineered to destroy the faith of those lonely old souls.

...it would give them something to talk about, if they could find someone to listen.

In my experience, if a pub could not count her time when visiting an infirm elderly person, she wouldn't go.

Not true, not true!!! At our Pioneer School, that was addressed. The answer: bring an unbaptized person (whether a child or unbaptized publisher) along and you get to count it! One brother, who was the PO, said he was already doing that and the CO said it was ok......... ah, loopholes.

    minimus,
I'm sorry to hear your mom is in bad health. My mother is in a similar situation...she's 81, has numerous health problems, they've closed the hall in her small town so she also listens via speaker phone to the meetings in the closest town and it's just too much for her to make assemblies etc. anymore. She's talked of how when she was able to go and she would take my disabled sister along, how it was a rare thing to be offered assistance with my sister's wheelchair, the heavy bags etc. She sees how they really are and I know she doesn't believe EVERYTHING they teach, but she still won't let go of 'the truth'. Sad thing to watch.

Maybe someone else has had this thought or experience. That the jws who do help the old or disabled would do that whether or not thay were jws. I don't believe peoples character changes, I know I'm the same person in or out.

""I was quite surprized when a relative of mine needed a ride to the district assembly and couldn't find one.""

It's getting to the point where the Watchtower can't even take care of their own let alone getting new ones.

How frustrating it must be for the older ones ........

You spend your life and time in the borg, and when you need help, no one to be found, I have heard this story over and over again.

The best was a bethel person who spent 40 years in the borg, travelling all over, preaching, preaching, preaching, he said " Now I am old, and cannot do things I once could, so what do I have, no pension, no money, I'm in an old age home with no other JW's and must buy clothes at the Salvation Army."

    How sad it is.

When I look around the congregation I see a lot of seniors over 75. How much longer can most of these last? Wt will lose many of the older ones in death in the next 10 years of so.

So with many dying off and fewer coming in watchtower will slim right down
