Just for the fun of it, I typed my aka (Outoftheorg) into the MSN search engine. It brought up one of the lasts posts I put on this forum.

I tried it on Google and got nothing.

Then I put in Outnfree on MSN and 3 of his posts on this forum were displayed.

It only displays the title of the thread/post and the url.

What do you think? Do we who want to remain under the radar need to be more careful?

I typed in mine, got a lot of responses, but nothing that leads to me personally. Might have overlooked it though.
If you find anything tell me ok?
    Thanks for the warning.

Well Avenger, I really don't know what to think of it. I find it odd that a search engine would have information from a thread in a forum.

Since some of us have more info. about ourselves in the profile section, it would give someone more information on us by leading the searcher directly to this forum.

Anyone else here have any answers??

many times when i have been doing searches, i will get usenet threads, and threads form idscussion boards as part of the search responces.I think with a common name like mine and avengers, if someone typed it in, they would probably get our posts, but they would also get many other types of responses. with an uncommon name, like yours, probaby all that would come up is your posts.

I'm sure she would be interested in that info.

I just did a quick search on Google and in 78 pages of results all I found were references to Aztecs, their culture, mythology, calender and Aztek automobiles, nothing to do with me. Guess I chose a nice, anonymous name.

Thanks Aztec for straightening me out on the "he she" thing. I don't know why I said he. I know outnfree is a she.

Just getting too damned old I guess.

I didn't get the same results on google. It only showed up on the msn search engine.

Try your aka there and see if it works.

I think a lot of it depnds on your user name. For example "Big Tex" brings up page after page of references, as well as any ancillary uses. But if you type in "Farkel" you will indeed find some of his posts here. So what I take from that is if you have an unusual user name, such as "outoftheorg", then it probably will show up in the search engine.

Which is either good or bad, depending on what your situation is.

I believe that for threads to appear on a search engine, they have to be 'crawled' first. So, if you post something, it won't show in a search until that thread has been scanned by the engine that you are using. At least that's my understanding.
