Prior to November 8, the Awake! read :

"the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world before the generation that saw the events of 1914 passes away."

After November 8, the Awake! read :

"the Creator’s promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things."

Did Jehovah really change His promise? Can he do that ? Take a look at Numbers 23:19.

' God Is not like men, who lie; He is not a human who changes his mind. Whatever he promises, he does; He speaks, and it is done'

I think most of the anointed ones and those who do a lot of research believe that the anointed won't be in the Paradise, that they will die before Armageddon. Their reasoning has to do with the desire to ride in the war and that the Marriage of the Lamb takes place before the Great War.

You left before the new light in 1995. Just for you, here it is, shorn of all blather and smoke:

    w1995 11/1 A Time To Keep Awake

Rather then provide a rule for measuring time, the term "generation" as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their Identifying characteristics. (p. 17)

Is anything to be gained, then, by looking for dates or by speculating about the literal lifetime of a "generation"? Far from it! (p. 19)

... "this generation" apparently refers to the peoples of earth who see the sign of Christ’s presence but fail to mend their ways. (p. 19)

…we need not conclude that Jesus was referring to a set number of years making up a "generation." (p. 31.)

If you want both articles, including all the razzle dazzle, i can supply them.

Regarding the 144,000, the GB has at times pointed to the writings of Donatus of Africa, who left the church in the 4th century, striking out on his own after the advents of Manicheism and Gnosticism. I also believe that some offshoots of the Dukabors (yes, the same people who went off naked into the Canadian wilderness awaiting their rapture and finally hauled back to town by the Mounties) believed in the literal number. So, in this regard, the GB and their 144,000 of the tribes are in good company - with other maniacs.

Notice that the scripture cited includes this statement, "The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."

The Spirit testifies WITH our spirit. The scripture does not say that the Spirit testifies TO our spirit that we are God's Children.

This means many things, not the least of which is that our spirit, the Kingdom of God within us, of course already knew that we are God's children...every last one of us. What does this scripture mean to you?

One of the best things that it means to me is that The JWs are totally wrong in attempting to divide the Children of God into two camps, the heavenly and the earthly. That idea is shear madness.

If you're annointed you just know. However, there are those "in the know" (those that knew long before you knew) that know you're not. Basically it just makes for lots of interesting gossip about those that think they have become annointed without prior consent of the WT. WT as you are all aware has full veto power over HS (Holy Spirit, not Hillary Step).

"this generation" apparently refers to the peoples of earth who see the sign of Christ’s presence but fail to mend their ways.

For those who don't already know: The word "apparently" when used by the Writing Department, is synonymous with "we don't really have a freaking clue."

The thing is, the Bible says the spirit knows, and the person knows, but it says nothing at all about a group of men knowing, or having the authority to decide who is or who is not, "anointed."

Nor does the Bible give any group of men the authority to un-anoint anyone, or declare that someone is not of the anointed. Recent WT articles have tried mightily to convince some who feel they are of the anointed to renounce their anointing.

This is blasphemous, since the Society has no authority whatsoever to stand in the place of the holy spirit.
