I bought a Dell 1525 running Windows Vista in June 2008. I've replaced the keyboard and battery simply because they wore out but it still runs like a charm and never gives me a problem. Quiet too.

Nic, what's the secret for keeping your old relic running so perfectly, I have an HP a year older thn yours running Vista. Now when I turn it on just to see if it still works which it does, I now have to set the date and time, always has a 2007 date on it, other than that not many complaints I've poured so much money into it, should've gotten it's replacement much sooner than I did with all the repairs money I put into it

Hi Shirley. I've always run my antivirus and anti malware programs routinely before I shut down. I don't open dodgy attachments or visit any site via a link I'm unsure about.

a) It's a Dell, either contact their support and when you will get out of that hellhole hours later, send it back for a full refund.
b) It's Windows, the WiFi adapter should be from a pretty well known manufacturer for the drivers to work properly. Any off-brand WiFi adapter has shown itself to be full of issues with Windows 10, usually because they ship with Windows 7 or XP drivers and have no updates anywhere to be found.
Given your problem description, most likely the thing just goes in low-power mode, try fiddling with the power settings for either the adapter, PCI bus, EFI/BIOS or Windows.
