    KGB,

I love the bible. I do believe alot was left out of the bible. Such as the books of Enoch and Thomas when they were being translated.

I also believe that some of the books were written far after the incidents, my memory is not all that clear after a week and some of the books were written forty years after the fact. That is why you get different opinions but all along the same lines such as Jesus death. As explained to me that these men saw different viewpoints but the fact remains that Jesus did die in a certain way.

I don't appreciate a religion telling me that I have to believe a certain way or I am toast. I feel the whole bible is proclaiming what Jesus stated in Matthew 22:37-40.

Verse 40 states: On these two commandments the whole law hangs, and the prophets.

    All reverting back to love.

    Love outlined in 1Corinthians 13:4-9

Love is long suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up. 5: does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. 6: It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 7: It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8: Love never fails.

How many have felt this kind of love. We were all asked to express this love but never recieve it. The society has done all the things that express non love and we were all suppose to close our eyes and except all things. Love is not blind. For those truly searching for this love it lays within each one of us. Love inspired by affection. Love is not a one way street. It takes two to interact.

How much love does it take to molest a child and have it covered up by those in authority? Where was the love so proudly displayed by the society for the victims? Where was the love when each of us began to question the lack of love within the ranks? We were labeled apostates or showing a lack of love. Remember love is not blind!

Were was the compassion and love when the "New Light" arose once again, the changing of the doctrines so they didn't look like they were caught with their hand in the cookie jar? Lives were shattered time and time again and for what? To be told we are the apostates with the lack of love we show and declared us unfit to associate.

Maybe those that actually had the nerve to question and not be led blindly by a group of men who have no idea what love is, are truly the ones that have some idea what love truly is. Because they took off the blinders, they had faith to step outside and view the light and to think for themselves they get condemned by men. Where is the love often spoken of in the society. No love, just apostacy. Such a shame to be so close minded and dictatorial in their thinking.

I believe some of the historical accuracy of the bible but I do not believe it to be inspired.

If I were to write a book today, I could make it completely accurate with regards to recent world events. I could also claim it to be inspired. The latter would be false, of course, but it wouldn't automatically make the historicity false.

What about prophecies that came true? What say you about prophecies?

    Yiz-

Nostradomus had a ton of fulfilled prophecies that were very accurate. Was he too a prophet (inspired by God)?

    cat1759,

Yes it was the fact that they shared in a very unloving way that made me decide not to get baptised. I never seen a single once of true human love from that religion it was just the opposite. To this day I can never let my guilt go when I was out in service one day with 3 other men. Driving down the road and a lady was trying to push her car off the road and she was having a real hard time with it. I shouted out pull over so we can help her and the elder that was driving the car said oh she will make it just fine and went around her while they all sat there and watched her trying to push that car out of the road. I have always been the first one to jump out and help someone and when that happened and we kept going down the road, I was not only filled with guilt but shame. That was the first thing that made me begin to think that this religion was a lie.

As far as I am concerned, the Bible is nothing more than the secular history of the Jews, tricked out to come across as some holy writ - which it is not. And yes, there are some interesting facts in there some of them made up by omission. For instance, the fact that Jehovah had a wife. The Pharisees made certain that fact was omitted. And there are many, many other things that were either added to or subtracted from this so-called holy writ. It cannot be viewed as reliable.

    And it certainly isn't Holy.

Actually as far a historically acurate, the bible is not fully reliable. Many such tales as the Flood, the hebrew bondage in egypt, the amount of time man has been on earth, the Philistenes first apperence in Cannan/Israel, the list can go on and on and on, are all very much out of step with secular history. Now if you want to talk about places, yes it has been shown to be very accurate, but on the note of events it's quite inacurate.

Name a prophecy that has come true, the time it was fulfilled, and the time the prophecy was believed to be written. Now show me the oldest manuscript we have for that section of the bible. Undoubtedly the manuscript will be younger than the fulfillment date. The most obvious conclusion is that the "prophecy" was put in the bible after it happened, or it was changed to fit events.

    Nothing special here....

I have noticed that a lot of you here quote references of history from scripture, so my question is this. If you say that the bible is not the true word of God then how can it even be a true word of History.

The Bible was written by people and its historical accuracy can be determined using the same methods as any other book. This means that some parts of the Bible will be historically accurate, and other parts will not be. Just because a book is not divinely inspired does not mean it is 100% hogwash.
