How many of you dutifully told this lie to your friends as a kid?

Most of us. Actually a selfish religion. Some did party days, not prom dances, costume getups, picnics. Mostly verboten now.-get in your time, no fun

My mom n dad were skeptics way back so I got to bday parties, Halloween, t giving. A school buddies mom gave me a real taste of xmas one year--decorating tree and the works

This is so true. In my childhood I heard of potential present days for some JW kids. I think they never happened because they feared their kids would brag to the other kids and demand it too from their parents.

An elder and I talked about this along time ago out in service. He said he knew the friends were saying they would give other times of the year to each other but in reality they never do, He said that was a sad fact.

The witness way is just an excuse not to part with money you don't have give up. This is one of the many reasons why no one wants to join this religion. It's no fun.

    Yes.

I always thought of that too. JWs not having Xmas was a way of cheaping out and not buying anything. Whether it was gifts,, decor,, whatever.

Its worked for the Borg,,, & keeps working for the Borg. And the trend works. It benefits them.

Giving presents diverts money away from "da Worldwide work™️" 🙄

    Not former;;.

    And time too..

Celebrating holidays takes away time from JWism. Along with money .

Having to cook for large amounts of guests. ""Decking the hallls"" ,,, decorations,,, focusing on holidays stuff,, instead of the Borgs..

Its worked for the Borg for decades. And it keeps on giving.

The Governing Body is very good with coming up with thought-stopping clichés. And that is really all this is. It was never meant to be rooted in truth or reality. I remember some kids at school once asking me if I felt bad about not getting anything for Christmas. So, I repeated the conversation stopper that my mom told to to say."Oh, we get presents all year long, not just on one specific day".

It seemd to satisfy the curiosity of the kids and it definitely stopped the conversation. Only trouble is that I was lying. I don't EVER remember getting a wrapped present from my parents and I don't believe other JW kids can remember any such wrapped gift given to them either.

The JW organization taught us how to be expert liars from a very early age.

When I was in, I noticed that most people rarely gave anything to their children at any time of the year. I saw families, including prominent hounders, that had no toys for the children including one that was around 7 or 8 and one around 12. They had some fine expensive furniture (tables and bookcases to showcase the washtowel littera-trash), but no toys or entertainment items.

And not just Christmas. I saw one mother auxiliary pious-sneer and dragging a son, around 8 years old, out in field circus during the whole of spring vacation from school for the whole day each day. No fun that week. And what about birthdays? Most regular children get something for their birthdays, which as often as not happen several months before or after Christmas. They get things around summer vacations--not just a week in another state or country doing boasting sessions and field circus. And Easter--people can and do get things for Easter, including toys (I have seen these items for sale at stores around that time of year) instead of going to the greatest wastefest of the year. Summer toys are for sale during the Fourth of July, and children sometimes get items around back to school.

Instead, the jokehovians expect nothing most of the time. They might get a new suit around the Supreme Boasting Session or the Grand Boasting Session in summer. They might get new clothes for school, and maybe field circus supplies come the new circus year in September. Summers are wasted on more boasting sessions and field circus, and that Grand Boasting Session, instead of fun trips. And they often get to do field circus on the major holidays, including Christmas Day. They don't even get the fun of putting up decorations, let alone the presents they would have gotten.

I got all those replies too, funny how our parents all had the same response ready??

'We get presents all year round '

Oh yes, new clothes and notebooks and pens for assemblies and conventions.

Why do JWs automatically assume it's all about the presents anyway? That is actually ridiculously shallow reasoning in the first place.

Now that I celebrate Xmas thanks to my ever-so-worldly husband, I get to enjoy seeing my children's excitement and anticipation weeks in advance, we bake and craft and decorate. There is NOTHING in jw land that compares to this, and the family bonding around this time doesn't happen in jw land....at all.

They deprive themselves of their God given children, every step of the way, the kids are sacrificed at Jehovah's altar, over and over again.
