Russell made it up just like the snake oil salesman of that day and time believed their product worked as well...and for the same reason: to see if he could get the R&F to believe anything he whispered in their ear, a test to see if the r&f would believe what they were instructed to believe.
Christ refurned invisibly to establish his kingdom - invisibly. In a pig's eye he did.
I think it is possible that he did start to judge christianity whilst being invilsible .I don't think he ever left . They like to use the scripture in revelation where the kingdom of the world became the kingdom of the christ to show that jesus was made king at a later date then what jesus clearly says after his resurection that he had already received all authority in heaven and earth . There are plenty of things that are invisible in this world such as radio and tv waves that travel long distances and can be seen with the proper equipment or microscopic life , gravity , the wind blowing .I do believe there is a spirit realm so I don't think invisibility would pose a problem .
The trouble is, considering what went on in the 20th century, it is hard to see how His return has been for the good.
this is how the judgement works - people whose deeds aren't good prefer blindness
A Paduan,
For the life of me, I can't fathom what your trying to say.??????

Well after all Russell's failed prophecies, I wouldn't put to much faith in what he has to say. Like they say, if Russell were alive today, he would be DF'd for apostasy.

If Jesus comes back I will be in line to re-crucify his ass.
Greven is right. Russell never changed his teaching that Christ returned in 1874. And I believe that some of his followers teach the same doctrine to this very day. Rutherford continued to teach this after Russell's death. But when his predictions failed (especially about the "ancient worthies") he decided to revise the whole dating system of Russell. He advanced the "parousia" of Christ to 1914. He did the same with the first resurrection and Christ's coming to his temple. He changed 1878 to 1918. 1914 became the "beginning of the end" instead of the end itself as Russell had predicted. This gave Rutherford much more time to explain away the failures of Russell. Many JWs felt that the "end" would come in 1954 or 1958 because they thought a 40 year period was significant. But it was never the official view of the Watchtower Society.
It is difficult to read the history of the Watchtower Society and not conclude it was a comedy of errors from the start. But there are still many who would defend the Watchtower's position either in Russell's day or in Rutherford's day. The only religious leader out of the whole Adventist movement that apologized to his followers for his mistake was William Miller... And he started it all....at least, in the U.S.
For those who belive in Jesus' invisible return and invisible kingship, I have an invisible bridge you might be interested in buying. I do not accept invisible money, so don't even ask.
