A witness told me recently that jws have homes that house the elderly.

Does anyone know more about this?

    Hi bewise,

I cant say that I know anything about the current practice. But a friend from the board, e-mailed me a recent article about the $120 million that the org. hopes to get from the sale of the NY buildings.

It made me think of a recent phone conversation with my (elder) father. He told me that he was helping his JW neighbor... a very elderly pioneer widow that I remember from childhood.... This woman is a life-long pioneer who lives in a four room, one-hundred year old house. Her scource of heat : a wood burning stove. Her bathroom includes a toilet and a wash basin. ( a large bowl that is filled with water, to take sponge baths in)

What is my dad helping her with? The elders got together and bought her one of those Sears brand bedroom-air conditioners. They thought it might help with the extreme summer heat, and after a long day of pioneering she deserves it. So my dad is installing it for her.

Remember this woman has dedicated her life to this org. . . .

Their kindness and generosity knows no boundaries

I'm still in the Borg, and I don't know of any officially sanctioned JW homes for the elderly.

However, there is a chain in Britain (owned by an elder, I think) called Jehovah-Jireh; they started out as for-profit, but recently became non-profit. Many of their residents are elderly JWs who made little provision for retirement; they rely on government subsidies for income.

I'm not aware of any program for providing for the elderly on any large scale. If there is, it is on a small local scale. The organization as a whole cannot claim any special credit for providing for the elderly. All they care about is printing and selling as much literature as possible.

When bethelites no longer qualify for service, they are kicked out and left to their own means.

Why on earth would the Empire take care of someone too old to go out selling their publications?

Makes me sick sometimes thinking of the "care" my Granny Eleanor received from my [step]dad and the congregation. He had her Social Security and Welfare checks deposited into his business account, ran all her bills late, she had her gas cut off three times, almost got kicked out for non-payment of rent, he almost faced criminal charges over it!

The elders knew and didn't do a damn thing!

Oh yeah right! Jehovah's Witness homes for the elderly. Great idea! I can feel the love from here! There's an old folks home right down the street from me. They used to have this sign out front that said "have you hugged your grandma today? we have!". I could just picture a Witness-run old folks home.

There are a number of Retirement Homes and Nursing Homes specifically for KW's in the UK. They are called Jah Jirah homes.

Only witnesses are allowed to work there, and if anybody is reproved/da's/df's etc they have to leave....totally contravening UK employments laws regarding race and religion!!

They were started by individuals but the Society has now gotten involved with all the homes being run on a Trust basis with members of WTS being on the Board of Trustees.

I beleive the Society has sent people in to see how the set up works with a view to opening homes in other countries.

.... I personally know of a Witness family that sent their mother in law to one of these places. Well, they were going to, but she died on the way, or something like that. But they definately exist, here are a few of the addresses.
