Here in Miami drinking is very prevelent amongst the congos. It was always a riot to see elders and servants at "get togethers" drunk. And ofcoarse 2 weeks later would come the local needs part about drinking. Scince I was always the one known in the congo as the "cool bro." and wouldn't tell anybody anything, I went out with alot of the bro's and sis's and partied very hard. I guess thats why I was never df'd. I know with my knowledge I could have enough dubs in trouble that they would have to delete a congo on the area.

My favorite bier - Fohrenburger ( from Vorarlberg, Austria)

My favorite drink - My father in laws homemade Obst Schnapps

Virtually all of my elder body are a bunch of lushes. The one goes through a 2-4 every single weekend which infuriates his wife which causes her to go through a 26er herself.........

The PO luuuuves to get up there and tell the entire congregation that drinking in excess is very very bad, and that Jehovah doesn't like it when we do that, but I've seen him pack it away at weddings without missing a beat.

The other elder drinks alot, probably because he's married to a witch and if I were married to her, I'd drink myself into a stupor every night.

My sister & B-I-L are in another congregation and they and all their friends are also a bunch of drunks as well........................

However, seeing as they all go to all the meetings and get all their useless hours of field service in every month, then Jehovah will forgive them for being a bunch of lushes. And if you don't believe me, just ask anyone of them.

Probably a legacy of Rutherford, there's a pervasive drinking culture at Bethel. During my four years there in the mid sixties, there were at least five persons, all senior staffers and including two women (married to higher ups) whose alcoholism was serious enought to require treatment.

I live in the bible belt and it isn't that bad where I am from. People do try to be cautious around new people so as not to offend, but everyone I know drinks. In Walmart the other week I saw a brother I don't know very well put a 6-pack in his buggy see me and then cover it up with his other stuff. I just laughed.

I drink 3-4 days a week and usually heavily on Friday and Sat. Not to the point of throwing up or anything, just a nice buzz.

    Favorite Beer: Michelob Light

Favorite Mixed Drink: Bong Water or Blue Motorcycle.

Most of the dubs I knew were closet drinkers, no one had alcohol at gatherings, at least not big gatherings, but the booze flowed aplenty at small gatherings. When our CO became a circuit overseer they bought a big camping rig to travel in, the wife showed me where they hid the booze when we got the tour of their new JWmobile. She lifted the seat and showed me a compartment and said, "this is where we hide the booze" and there was a lot in there!

They always told us alcohol in moderation. There was so much drinking, it was the first question most elders asked when I or my friends would have a party "where's the beer"... I bought a keg of Miller Lite, and I couldnt believe my ears when the one elder said "what did you buy this shit for?"

Yes, the JW's love to drink. Just don't invite someone who has a bunch of Bethel friends down for the weekend. You could be looking at quite an expensive drunkfest when they start hitting the tap.

The jws received some counsel at the recent Convention program about drinking. Seems that many get carried away.

From what I observed over the years, drinking was sort of a 'safe' jw vice because it can be done in moderation and yet it's sometimes easy to get away with taking it further than that without really getting in trouble with the elders.

Many JWs are secret drinkers, at home, and too much. They justify because they are not driving drunk. Many of them become alcoholics and eventually are drinking before meetings and field service. Most elders are counseled privately if at all and their "privileges" may be reduced. Those who become loud public drunks end up being removed. In my area there has been a growing problem with underage drunkenness and why not with the example the adults set. At conventions, many JWs get together with 3 or 4 couples and drink heavily all evening while the kids are in the pool. A sister who worked during the conventions as a maid (hers was a different week) was shocked at the empty liquor bottles in the JW rooms.

Just like any other "sin" at the KH, it is hidden until it can't be any more in worldly society.

I know so many dubs that have drinking problems. I think they justify it because they may only have a few drinks everyday by not getting falling down drunk. They think that is not being an alcoholic. I know a group of good brothers that would go up hunting but it was just an excuse to get away from their wives and get pissed up. I know my brother in law has all the classic signs of an alcoholic i.e. drinking alone, hiding the empty bottles, moodiness etc. yet he is a ministerial servant.

Wow! I want to thank everyone for their imput.I thought I was just in with a group that was the exception not the rule. But I guess I was wrong! When I was married I never served drinks at my get togethers. But my buddy from down under could put the whole cong. under the table when he had wine and cheese parties! Ol' Blackguard could put me in a coma the way he can handle his grog! He got a bad rep. from this and they would never make him a servant. These elders would get "totaled' at his parties but not let him be a servant...go figure! Maverick
