  American politics is certainly in trouble.

  But, alas, I don't think the UK is in a position to help. We have the Tory party doing everything it can to kick Brexit into the long grass (against the democratic will of the electorate) and we also have the Labour party imploding and trying to bring back socialism - something that was tested to destruction in the 1970s.

  Hopefully, Hillary will win and steer things into calmer waters.

  I suddenly have the urge to scrub myself clean in the shower.

  The Tories have always been, by and large, eurosceptic. All I can see is fight over whether we get a Hard Brexit or Soft Brexit.

  The Tories have always been, by and large, Eurosceptic - whoa, hang on. Let's see: Theresa May (of Remain) recently beat Michael Gove (a Brexiter) in the Tory leadership contest. Recently, Ken Clark (Remain) has been trying to kick Brexit into the long grass.

  I confidently expect that May's effort to trigger Brexit will be attacked by both Labour MPs and europhile Tory MPs (yes, they exist).

  By the end of March - I'll believe it when it happens.

  In the meantime, I expect Lib/Lab MPs and Europhile Tories to go beyond sensible debate and throw any obstacles they can to prevent the triggering of brexit.

  Prominent members of the snowflake generation will no doubt protest and stomp their little feet at this outrageous democratic result, aided by Bob Geldof and other people with way too much time on their hands.

  What all this means is that the UK has enough problems of its own and can only trust that American citizens do the sensible thing and keep Trump not only out of office but away from politics.

  I'll believe it when it happens.

  The only possible way of halting this is if a General Election is called and a party comes in on a Stay vote.

  If that happens then yes, it could be stopped, but otherwise it will happen.

  My perception is that the EU is one of those things that crosses political divides. However, traditionally the Tories have been more Eurosceptic than Labour. Immigration seems to have brought a lot of the working class around to a more sceptical way of thinking.
