JeffT: just because it doesn't like how they think, or what they believe.

    That is an understatement

The children could be removed because the parents were involved in illegal activity. Not any different than many countries. That happens in Canada and the States too.

Want to risk losing your children? Do illegal things.

In Russia, engaging in practices that define you as belonging to an extremist (banned) organization is simply an illegal act. THAT is what will get children taken away. Doing things that are illegal will risk your children being removed from your care.

You guys who support this next crazy move by the Russian government, just have no idea of how vile and evil it is at the moment. All the Watchtower crimes and misbehavior is less than 1% of what those guys do in terms of controlling people, spreading propaganda of crazy ideas, telling outright lies to the public, killing innocent, etc. etc.

    Yeah, I know, StillMS.

What Russia really, really needs is an American corporate theocratic organization to get 'em in line, right?

Oh, and who would that be??? Jehobah's organization?

That will work. Sure it will.

OrphanCrow - I'm not getting your point, honestly. I didn't say Russia or any other country needed WT, but I really think that applauding crazy regimes in their attempts to oppress people is not the thing that can make our lives better. The same thing like, let's say, applauding ISIS for executing JW.

I'm with stillMS on this. It is horrifying and no one should be applauding it. I'm no apologist but children should only be removed from parents when there is clear, life-threatening danger--not for a belief system. Russia is an extremist and oppressive regime and JWs will be only the start. The majority of JW parents are good and decent people.

I think the best thing is to expose JW tactics. The government could make sure that all these pedophile, blood transfusion, family shunning atrocities of JWs are published with facts in the news, television, and internet news very regularly. Sure, some JWs would be undaunted but many will be confused and ashamed. The regular public would be aware and would present these things to JWs regularly face to face.

Their children could be exposed to this info in school. Taking the JW children away from their family/siblings would bring on another set of emotional problems so I disagree to take their children away. As a JW kid, I would have hated the government to do that. (Fortunately, my 4 siblings and I all left the org in early adult years around the same time ((4 of us pioneered and went to Bethel too)) and we have a bond inseparable. We understand our exclusive sarcasm and humor.)

Also, the government could make sure, that no money by JWs could be sent out of country to the JW headquarters. The government could refuse the JWs any tax-free status. Also, the government could refuse any JW gatherings larger than a certain amount, say like no larger than 100 at any given time.

This will definitely put an end to the corporation self serving witness work in Russia, even if in 5 years and they decide to lift the ban and declassify them as no longer extremist they will never recover. Further I think this ban and the way it was done in public court will have far reaching negative effects for the WT internationally.

    Applauding????

    I am applauding?

    wow

I was pointing out the myopic ethnocentric and hypocritical view of those outside of Russia...that is all

Children get seized from parents lots of times in Western countries when and if the parents are breaking the law

    I wasn't applauding. sheesh

    MARTIN NIEMÖLLER Wrote

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.
