    You have a wonderful grandson!!!

I made shrimp and grits for dinner last night. We grew up on eating them.

What a wonderful meal, snowbird! And what a wonderful grandson he is to make it for you. Well done! You raised yo' yunguns right!

I feel sorry for those po' Yankees who don't know the exquisite delight of grits in the morning. Nothing is better, especially if you stir in scrambled or sunny side up eggs and eat them as one dish. Mmm mmm... heaven on earth!

On a sadder note, grits were used as punishment in the film, The Secret Life of Bees.

that pic of above is what I grew up on as a kid, but there was no 5-minute grits in the 60's, regular grits takes about 15-20 minutes to cook, when the instant one did come out though, I will say I like it much better than the regular, the regular ones didn't have that much of a taste to me, the instant one I'm sure is loaded with salt I'm sure plus the fact it just takes a minute or two instead of 20 minutes, so not as mushy

You must be ... ahhhh ... kidding me.

Maybe it's just the Yankee in me but with good shrimp I'm thinking of Coucous, Wild Rice, roasted herbed potatoes, Quinoa or plain white rice cooked in a good broth.

    Whatever ...enjoy.

    I'm still appreciating the responses.

In my day, there was no such thing as quick grits.

You had to stir and stir those babies until they were creamy and delectable.

My mother would serve them with eggs, stewed rabbit, coon, or squirrel.

Oh, a note about my grandson.

He doesn't want anyone near him when he's cooking.

When he finished, he left the kitchen spotless.

    Everything in its place.

    OCD runs in the family.
