    ISAMBARD & TOR:

I have a feeling this little revelation is going to have at least some impact on the rank & file Witnesses. It may go over some people's heads but not all.

It may be a little similar to the 1995 changed teaching on Generation that they very nicely slipped into a Sunday magazine article. I remember reading this and feeling like I got sucker-punched.

People may not leave right away (although a few might). The effect will be gradual. As people play it over in their minds as time goes by, the reality will set in and they'll make other plans. Some will plan their "fade" like I did. Others will just stay there no matter what is taught, but this may yet be another straw on the camel's back for other JWs who have had enough. Time will tell.

What ex-JWs "get" from the Watchtower is not what the rank and file get. It is "soothing waters" to the rank and file - if anything. I am under no illusion that JWs would ever carefully and studiously consider the contents of the Watchtower Study; in fact, ex-JWs appear to study it more thoroughly than current JWs.

Ding - "...Not claiming inspiration or infallibility... (yet) must be obeyed without question..."

I think it's very important to reiterate this in one sentence, as often as possible, immediately followed by "...wait, what???"

Correctly! One clear effect of deep indoctrination.

Having stated that, any logical/intelligent person clearly understands that other organizations are bound to make mistakes, always, as they're all under the control of most imperfect humans.

This is why many have jumped shipped because of this Org's imperfections. Well... surprise! Same mistakes in any other org of any kind as long being led by other imperfect people.

So, accentuate, concentrate, enjoy the good, the positive. Or... join any other org and be prepared for when these and many other mistakes hit you in the face again.

I think it will more that zero impact, but I've been out for close to 2 decades. So I have no understanding of how brainwashed this current batch members are,, I can guess much more than when I left. But what a totally un- uplifting piece a crap wt study,, it's got to be pretty depressing no matter how indoctrinated you are. It's crap like this that is causing a decline in meeting attendance. As newby GB Mark Sanderson told the Spanish bro's many people are getting headaches and missing meeting to which I say can you blame them fatso.

I can palpate that the old people are plain tired and the young are very indifferent.

The young are furthering their education, participating in school's extracurricular activities and mingling with non-JWs. The old are supporting their kids in obtaining a worthy education and not frowning as much on situations previously frowned upon by the WTBTS.

We as a community are tight and super clicky, but when it comes to hardcore doctrinal bull, we're all sick of the doomsday crap.

The internet has put a hurting on this org. GOOD!!!

Outlaw is correct. Scandals and ill-treatment of those who question reach back into the earliest years of this organization, including in Russell's day. The organization's entire history is stained with disgusting behaviour in the upper reaches.

Anyone who thinks old Chuck was a Cookie Bear to Rutherford's Miss Piggy, needs to read up on Chuck's divorce proceeding which are on the public record.

Speaking of Miss Piggy, Rutherford did his best through Watchtower publications to wreck the reputation and life of Olin Moyle in the 1930s when Olin asked necessary questions about Rutherford's profligate lifestyle whilst the rank and file Witnesses suffered on the bread line. And this and other egregiously vicious acts occurred well after Jehovah is supposed to have chosen the organization as the vessel to serve him in the "momentous" year of 1919.

It seems there was no wt study of this in Canada's congregations. . Instead a wt talk talk beamed in, from Toronto. Par. 12 glossed over with the mind controlling rhetoric, Even hiding what little facts there are in the mags.

I think the opposite, that it has tremendous impact. Just not the kind you think.

You see, this is a relief to hear that the GB is "not inspired." So much time has passed without anything happening the way the leaders of this religion have promised for over 100 years that there is actually tremendous stress placed upon the average JW believer. How do they make it all work out?

Simple: The Governing Body tells everyone they are not inspired.

Ah. What a relief! It's like having to pee for a very long time, not having anywhere you can go, and then suddenly you can--and now you have relief. "Nothing has happened as promised because we don't have inspired leaders. That makes perfect sense!"

These people don't want to run away. They just want someone to keep patting them on the back, making them feel special and unique and smart for "making the choice" to join the "one true religion." (They are so enlightened for doing that, right?)

But the one true religion doesn't deliver! That's okay. It's because the leadership is not inspired. Oh, okay. There's some bias confirmation I can use. I feel relief.

That's the big impact this has. It will keep people who are on the brink of letting their doubts wake them up from waking up. It's another nail to keep the coffin shut, keeping the living person on the inside from busting out. It's noise so you can't hear them shout: "It's all a lie! I'm alive! I'm not dead!"

It won't last forever. Eventually they will run out of nails and noise. But for now it's a strong new Band-Aid brand adhesive strip. Keep the festering sore covered so they don't have to look it...until it starts smelling and causing an infection. Then it will be time for some new "here's-just-any-answer-so-you-can-shut-your-inner-voice-up" again.

What's my guess the next one will be? "The increase in the memorial partakers is because the 144,000 is the number of anointed since 1914 because Revelation is a prophecy about 1914 onwards. The number can only apply to people anointed since then, not before."
