  A tragic story of how the Watchtower unduly influenced or brain washed a 14 year old Jehovah's Witness into martyrdom. The real irony here is the synthetic blood that failed was a hemoglobin solution, and red blood cells are nothing but tiny doughnut shaped bags of hemoglobin. Any thinking person will conclude that if red cells are blood, then so is hemoglobin. But because the Watchtower approves the use of hemoglobin solution, but not red cells, this teenager died needlessly. We can also fault both the hospital and a clearly flawed policy on “mature minors” that exists in the state of Washington.

  Terrible. What 14 year old should be forced into making decisions like that.

  making a child be a martyr to their misguided/dangerous interpretation of scripture will NEVER be seen as a good witness. A policy Enforced by fear ......of being disfellowshipped/shunned. STUPID and a waste of a lovely young life full of potential.

  This is really sad and sick, this happen in my state. Lee what exactly is hemoglobin. Is it just red blood cells with the out skin pealed off? I know that hemoglobin makes up 96% of what a red blood cells is.

  Hemoglobin is the protein in red cells that carries oxygen and prevents anemia. It is essential to life.

  A horrible story of a needy boy manipulated by this disgusting organisation to give up his life and how the legal system was complicit. The sooner the legal system recognises the organisation for the manipulative abusive charlatans that they are and stops letting them hide behind freedom of religion the better. This boy went from one form of abuse to another.

  I wonder if they might've been able to save him had the doctor talked to him alone much earlier on, instead of waiting for the elders and other cultists to spend days pressuring him to kill himself 24 hours a day.
