I came a hall where a bunch of them got their stomach stapled and they all lost a lot of weight in a big hurry but it made them look like they were dying of cancer instead of healthy living. They all seemed to all have this very morbid glow about them.

I actually knew a few people in the community who asked me " How much time does Mr.Doe have to live, sorry to hear about your friend. ".

    Too funny

Those Witnesses that had that operation suddenly realized they couldn’t eat as much or…drink 2 drinks without getting hammered. I remember a few defending their drunkenness because their stomachs were stapled. Haaaa

Fatso's in the congregations? Really? In America? Have you looked around lately? America as a whole is filled with tubby people. For example, me! I dropped 80 pounds during the pandemic...and I'm still a lard ass (although I weigh less now than when I graduated high school decades ago). JW or not, most people in this country should lose some weight.

I have a spare tire too. My because of my Italian roots helped with that development. We like to eat and drink, which I have cut back some. My family thinks I might be sick if I'm not stuffing my face. It's hard. Mangia!

The bible says drunkards will not inherit the kingdom. It says nothing about the occasional, social, over-drinker?

Good lord, you're dredging up more memories.

There was another elders school that got into this issue with agonizing detail. The instructor asked if someone was an alcoholic, could he be DF'ed?

In one of the rare opportunities to express opinions not pre-approved by "mother", some elders commented yes, others no.

The instructor said the answer was "no". The Bible condemns "drunkenness", not "alcoholism".

He then went on, again in excruciating detail, about how the Bible describes "drunkenness". IIRC, it was a bunch of stuff from Proverbs about "staggering around" and "eyes seeing strange things".

He said an alcoholic might not ever exhibit such symptoms, thus, strictly Biblically speaking, he would not be considered "drunk" and thus not subject to congregation discipline. Such a person wouldn't be "exemplary" and so couldn't be a pioneer, elder, MS, etc., but without that Biblical "evidence" of drunkenness, no judicial action was to be pursued.

The unspoken takeaway, of course, to the undoubted delight of a significantly high proportion of the attendees, was that if you can "hold your liquor" and not act stumblingly stupid while drunk, there was no problem.

Jeeeeezz minimus you would have been DF from the last congregation I was in , we all liked to drink . The Elders and MS as I was loved having get togethers and going out to restuarants especially after a Sunday meeting.

We consumed a lot of alcohol but I never saw anyone visibly drunk .A few of us regularly drank at hotels also .

What I mean by that is a couple of drinks on any given day and the rest at home or at a friends place.

I always had people over for drinks and would hope they would get home alright.🤭… we had an Italian elder who drink wine with all of his meals and sometimes too much, elders figure it out that he was awful giddy on some of his assignments. Especially Thursday night was tough. However I remember him as giving the most entertaining talks! LOL

By the way, I mention Italianelder because when he was questioned by the elders,He said it was his culture because he was Italian that he drank wine with all of his meals and everyone in Italy does the same thing. I like it.

Obesity gets a pass in the JWS religion and probably will in the near future for many of the top GB men are obese.

Booze also gets a pass, here is a picture of GB member (Obese) Anthony Morris at a liquor store picking up a box of expensive whiskey..
