"Do Religions Today Feed or Fleece The Flock?" March 22, 1988

I pulled this magazine out of a box of "never placed and never will be" from the 1980's and 90's. Of course it is hypocritical (like most articles) but especially now since the JW religion has their own channel.

It is an article about tele evangelists - the four prominent ones. It takes up 3 1/2 pages and it is full of the misdeeds and greed of these preachers. The style of writing is quite different than a lot articles at the time and even of ones today. If you ever had read the "Golden Age" (?) one of the early mags they put out, the style is similar. It's very tabloid and catty.

"As it was in the days of ancient Israel, so it often is today: Many of the religious shepherds feed themselves and starve their flocks. Last year the television evangelists were on center stage, zealously fleecing the sheep."

Not that the WT is doing that...

From the Bakers, Oral Roberts, Falwell and Swaggart, the article goes into the scandals and how much money was accrued. But it takes an interesting turn on page 7. Instead of it all being painted as bad - the great amounts of money being "used" for religion - the WT oks that.

"It is true that "all the trappings of modern television evangelism" are a long way from the methods of Jesus. But it is also true that times have changed. To preach worldwide to millions involves the use of modern facilities and efficient organizations, and it takes large sums of money. Even so, the basics of Jesus' way of life remain the the model for Christians. The values and principles that he laid down are still the only pathway for Christians today. -1Peter 2:21

Some of those principles follow: 'You received truth free, give free. Don't be anxious about material things. Seek first the kingdom. More happiness in giving than in receiving..... True Christianity has not changed: only the facilities for spreading it have.

It is not the huge amounts of money that are involved that are objectionable. It takes millions to preach worldwide. Money is not evil. It is the love of money that is the root of all kinds of evils. It is the ways of getting the money -- the pleas, the gimmicks, the begging, the deceit, the lies -- that are evil. It is the fraudulent extraction of it from the poor by con games that's evil. And collected for one purpose, then used for another, for personal enrichment -- that's embezzlement..."

I've got a box of the these "spiritual treasures" but am contemplating putting them in the recycling bin. No witness will ever be convinced even if you put them in their hands that the WT is shady.

The WT never seems to apply its principles to itself...

All xian religions, along with judaism and islam, fleece the flock. They base it on the bible (or torah or quran, which are equivalent)--which is a spell on the earth to have it all enslaved under the reptilians (and to have us all take these filthy creatures for "God"). They suck the energy out of the flock--along with your time and money. Jokehovian witlesses are also fleeced, just like every other abrahamic religion. Ever notice after going to a big boasting session, you feel tired or get a headache that's even worse than going to work? That's where the energy goes--right to the reptilians.

The WTS certainly fleeced the flock by making up false doctrines to promote and sell its published literature.

Charlatanism is synonymous with money making corruption.

All done so tax free I might add.

    Doesn`t that sum up the WTB&TS and the G.B.of Jehovah`s Witnesses ?

They needn't slag off Jimmy Swaggart after the WBT$ helped him with that case about paying tax on literature, I think it was.

It is the ways of getting the money -- the pleas, the gimmicks, the begging, the deceit, the lies -- that are evil.

They only talk about themselves when they slag other religions off.

A PIMO I know said to someone about a trip to Warwick, 'I wonder what it must have been like being surrounded by all that grandeur and money?' Twas a cheeky question, one that I think makes a point. Apparently the reaction from the Jobo was a brain dead, 'me no understand...cannot compute' look.

    DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED:

I think all religions are guilty of fleecing their flocks.

However, other religions (especially Christian) may help the community in some way (soup kitchens, programs to help youth, etc.)

Sadly, Jehovah’s Witness religion has none of these redeeming factors!..It was my observation they help No One...Their absurd stand against college encourages uneducated people. In some cases, these people are dependent on government assistance instead of being productive citizens.

Their feeble claim of offering ‘bible studies’ doesn’t cut it as far as I am concerned... Quite in fact, their bible studies are simply their own literature studies...I believe any religion should have to prove that they are of material benefit to the community. If not, they should lose tax exempt status.

The Watchtower is now a multi-billion dollar empire, and getting into media more and more-

it's a snare and a racket just like the rest of christianity..

A professional sheep farmer would probably argue that fleecing the flock is kind of the point.

    Yes fleecing and sometimes eating.

Ezekiel 34:2-4 New International Version (NIV)

2 “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock? 3 You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock. 4 You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally.

You see, the WT does follow what's in the bible
