Mike Tyson, misunderstood or misanthropic ass#@!&

To an extent, I agree. As far as I'm concerned, the interest that some have in Mike is nothing but pure, unadulterated racism, and by far the majority of those of whom you speak don't look anything like him... if you know what I mean. (I grew up in America and understand the racial undercurrent that is always present in nearly every dealing.)

Well said Bro. Teejay. Otoh, I really can't stand the way he loses his temper.

Personally I feel like Mike Tyson's days are numbered. Eventually he will attack the wrong person and as one attorney put it; bring a knife to a gun fight and someone will kill him and put him out of his misery and that will be the end of his story.

    Merc,

    I couldn't agree more.

I don't care for the things that Mike gets himself into, either. He is a very angry man, but there is reason for it. His pre- and post-fight antics reveal a person who is impossible to love or even care about, but away from the lights and the media firestorm, he is a very likeable person. And very bright.

I will be the last to make excuses for any of Mike's misdeeds. He has made many mistakes and hurt way more than his share of innocent people. OTOH, I will never be among those who now seek (and perhaps always have sought) to vilify him for being the very thing that they so adored and paid huge sums of money to observe up close.

Mike is fairly representative of a lot of people... mostly men, mostly of African American descent. The one "advantage" he's had in life, the one thing that allowed him to (temporarily) escape the horrors of his upbringing, is the talent that the exploitive Cus Damato (sp) and the boxing world saw in him.

As I said... I will not excuse any of what he's done, but in many ways Mike is my brother and I embrace him as such. When I learn of his (likely violent) death on some not-too-distant day, I promise you... I will surely feel the loss. I wish that there had been one person that had reached out to him and given him an ounce of the love that we all need in order to be whole, rather than using him until there was nothing left to use.

I don't mind saying: My heart goes out to him.

Three teens get community service in hazing case

    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SKOKIE -- Three teenagers were sentenced to supervision and community service Friday for their roles in a violent hazing incident involving Glenbrook North High School students, officials said.

Criminal Court Judge Timothy Chambers found the three guilty of two counts of misdemeanor battery apiece after they stipulated to the facts in the case, according to Tom Stanton, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.

Trevor Roberts, 18, and Sarah Rosselli, 18, were each sentenced to 18 months of supervision and 60 hours of community service. Jennifer Larson, 18, was given a year of supervision and 50 hours of community service, Stanton said.

All three also were ordered to have no contact with the victims and to undergo alcohol and drug evaluation.

Friday's sentencing brought to five the number of teens sentenced in connection with the case. Thursday, Marnie Gaule, 18, also stipulated to the facts in the case and was found guilty by Chambers, who sentenced her to 50 hours of community service and a year of supervision.

In July, Grant Lustig, 18, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to two years' probation and ordered to perform 30 days of community service and undergo alcohol evaluation.

More than a dozen youths were charged in the incident, which gained worldwide attention as videotapes of it were played on news programs. The tapes show junior girls from Glenbrook North being covered with mud, paint, feces and garbage as onlookers, some hoisting beer cups, cheered.

If Mike is an ass#@!&, what are these "children," many of whom have had every advantage in life but still turned out to be nothing but thugs when they beat up their own friends while others cheered?

    Just curious.
