I have found the opposite to be the case.
Look through my "Evolution is a Fact" series to see how many dislikes I get...
I count every one as a compliment.

When did I click on dislike to one of your comments Brandnew?
It's taken me a while to get into this like and dislike thingy but this thread has been helpful in deciding how much I want to use it and particularly this comment from Secret Slave Class -Incidentally I don't down vote anymore unless by accident while intending to hit "like". I simply decided I'd rather just be positive and like rather than negative and dislike.
It's not about being bored but probably about laziness. I have gotten into the habit of reading an opening post and liking it if it's good just to let the poster know it is being read and interesting rather than commenting about it. Lately I've been using the dislike button more with posts that I don't agree with but rather than doing that, I'll try to put more effort in responding to such posts and give my reasons why I dislike it. Mind you, there are some posts that are so ridiculous that they don't need any response.

What you don't realize is that there is difference between what *you* see and what *everyone else* sees.
While you can click multiple time and the counter appear to change, it only changes for you and only one of those votes will ever count. When you refresh the page they will be gone.
Why? Because it's not worth slowing the system down to do the lookup to check to make the display perfectly consistent just for people who occasionally click multiple times. You may not realize it but many online systems use approaches like this - why burn resources to update the display for people trying to cheat?
I could make it more robust - it could keep track locally that you've clicked and stop you clicking again and I may in the next version but there's no real need for it, it's purely cosmetic.
Also, you can change your vote - only one vote per person is ever recorded because that's all the database key structure allows (post + user = identifying key).
So, don't worry about it. No one can vote multiple times and I keep an eye out to detect patterns of people gaming the system with duplicate accounts.

It doesn't work like that. Refresh the page and you'll see the extra votes don't count. Plus Simon pointed this out a while ago - if you click dislike by accident you can reverse the vote by clicking like instead and refreshing the page

my posts always say flag to me and I am very glad that it does not so to you all - i guess this means I cannot like my own posts

Lol this is funny. I have just been messing with them today. And thought I was making multiple votes. I didn't take count of the number though, and didn't realise you could do 42 lol hahaha. Obviously Simon has it all under control.
Now please give me 100 likes so raise money for the sick alligators
Personally I don't really use them, all the pleas for likes and shares on facebook are stupid

If you bothered to read, you'd realize that you can't do 42 or 130 or any other number you're trying to invent to cover you previous false claim. You can do 1 per post and that's it.
