When I was at bethel G-jobbing by the younger bethelites was greatly discouraged. However, it was well-known that the Bethel "heavies" were actively involved in G-jobbing of their own. It was not uncommon for younger bethelites to bribe the heavies so that they would look the other way so to speak.
As far as the vow of poverty is concerned....it is just a tax dodge in my opinion.
