Just a little anecdote illustrating how out of touch the typical JW is

This weeks book study lesson was on Martha, the sister of Lazarus. The chapter in the "Imitate Their Faith" book praised her for being "industrious".

The conductor at our congregation meeting was just positively gushing about how "industrious" modern-day JW women are.

He was so excited, he could barely get the words out. Following is not an exact quote, but conveys the gist:

"The LDC [JW Kingdom Hall construction team] is now using women prominently! Why, they just had a meeting with our elders, and they recommended putting sisters in charge of organizing our Kingdom Hall's closets! Boy, if you want an organized closet, just get a sister involved!"

And I was thinking to myself:

"Just a couple hours ago, history was made as for the first time ever, a major US political party nominated a woman as a candidate to be President of the United States. And this guy is excited because JW women have been granted the 'privilege' of organizing a closet."

You just have to shake your head.

But it well illustrates the JW mindset and culture.

    Excellent point sir82.

However, you cannot allow the sisters to imitate bisexual worldly women, can you?

Back here in the UK of course we have recently had our second female Prime Minister take office.

Meanwhile back in the Kingdom Hall women cannot run a microphone, wear trousers or read for the congregation.

    Jeez!

I remember hearing many similar things over the years, even before I woke up and looking around in discomfort as the 1950's style rhetoric spewed forth.

"Now brother lets say you want to do something nice for your wife so you buy her a new vacuum..."

    or "frying pan".

Inevitably I would see other also looking around in disbelief.

"Meanwhile back in the Kingdom Hall women cannot run a microphone, wear trousers or read for the congregation".

But they can wear high heels, wear makeup and spray themselves with sundry perfumes (except at RCs). So what is the complaint?

Pardon my political views, but I don't see Mrs Clinton as the best role model for anyone...habitual liar, arrogant, condescending, holier than thou attitude, deceitful, back stabber, possible bribery, questionable intelligence (email scandal), questionable morals, questionable ethics. not mention the stories I hear of her behind close doors to her underlings and worker bees...to put it mildly, she is a real B.

Conductor also said from the platform: "I'm about out of time, but I've got a story to tell about sisters & closets after the meeting! Be sure to ask me about it!"

I happened to be sitting near him when the meeting ended.

I barely had time to move before he rushed up and, unbidden, told me a remarkably boring, banal, and virtually pointless story about a woman organizing a closet.

He was about falling all over himself to tell this story about her organizing cleaning supplies. It was every bit as entertaining as listening to someone describe variations in their rate of toenail growth over the past 6 months.

What is it with these people?

Sir82 - I remember at the meetings elders would ALWAYS make snide little sexists comments.....and everyone would LAUGH and LAUGH and LAUGH...

Even when I was a teenager, I never laughed. Just sat there seriously like someone had died. Such losers. Don't know how you could stand there through the whole story w/o punching him.
