Watchtower Society files for FCC Frequency

  In January of 2002, the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York filed for FCC frequency along with a large group of telecommunicatons businesses. The purpose is to allow for emergency communications when the Postal systems is shut down in emergency situations. When you go to the site, you can see the Watchtower listed on the Adobe Acrobat Reader, page 25 of 49 pages.

  Because of the anthrax mailings?

  I don't understand why the WT filed for emergency communications...I didn't look through all 49 pages, but are any other "religions" filing, too?

  A few of our letters and bills were late getting to their destinations because of the anthrax at the post office. Maybe I should file for emergency communications, too.

  Hi Shakita: I did not see any other religions. I scanned all 49 pages and found many telecommunications and related businesses ... and our beloved Watchtower Society.

  Well, I don't know about emergency communications due to the postal service being closed, but rather, it is for general communications services such as voice, data, etc., that link buildings together.

  When I toured Bethel, I noticed a microwave hop installed between two of the Society's buildings. The dishes were semi-stealthed behind glass windows at the tops of the buildings(probably due to zoning regulations I imagine). With the frequencies that they are using, in the 22-23GHz range, they can easily squeeze the equivalent of an OC-3 across these hops(OC3 = 3 DS3's = 84 T1's). Of course, with the higher frequency gaining a higher bps(Shannon Curve), the distance of the m/w hop is diminished for only short ranges. So in their case, these hops only have a usable range of around 1km at best.

  I imagine they are bypassing the local telco simply to save on internal communications costs between buildings. Heck, that is what I would do if I were them. Plus, it also lowers the chances of some telco employee tapping in and listening to voice conversations. There would be nothing stopping them though from doing it at the local CO...

  When I was at the house in the 80's we discussed many uses for microwave links for televising Bethel events to each facility. At the time the idea of using "television" to any great extent other than 'morning worship' was ghastly to them. We of course were just lowly techies who really didn't have a clue about such things. But now millions have been spent on that super fancy audio/video facility at Patterson and more coming.

  The RO means "Renewal Only"... which means that they had these already. I wonder how long.

  Kent S. posted a collection of these license registrations at least 2 years ago. Jourles is right on the money w/ the Transmitter Links between buildings. (These are similar to STL's: Studio Transmitter Links for Broadcast Stations.) That's a lot of bandwidth; if you have 100's to 1000's of people scattered between buildings, you install these. I have done exactly that. Some users have even gone to IR Lasers.
  

  This is becoming a common practice for "campus" installations and companies with more than one large building clustered in a metropolitan area. I can feature this also at the "farm" for use between a maintenance depot building ("motor pool") and service/emergency vehicles or even tractors. I have worked at more than one large industrial facility which had to have it's own FIRE DEPARTMENT because of being "isolated" from municipal services. When this is required, so are radio communication links.

  When you do this, EACH transceiver requires a separate station license. They could have 100's of these. All "operators" are required to carry AT LEAST a Restricted RadioTelephone Operators Permit.

  Maybe they are setting up the infrastructure for administering world affairs after the "storm" of Armageddon breaks on the world scene. As you know, they will be running the planet, so they better be prepared.
