Looking at the board, I see so many long threads on " Evoultion vs Creation " ect, ect.

Therefore if " YOUR" qualifications are only those of " an" uneducated J.W, may I ask one question?

    Q) What makes you feel you are now qualified to comment with absolute ,authority on any discussion?

I ask the above question because for most of us " ex-witnesses " logic is still words written in the pages of an awake" magazine. So whilst FACTS, and images are great, the vehicle that will remove cognitively baffled minds should eventually be from " threads" or "posters," who can proove their credibility.

Welp, this is just a strawman.....Also, when you have an A), there should be a B), otherwise the A) is pointless.

for most of us " ex-witnesses " logic is still words on a page in an " awake" magazine, so whilst FACTS, and images are great, the vehicle that will remove cognitively baffled minds will eventually be threads from the heart not logic.

That was true for most of us as well, but we put the work in to learn. Why is it that so many who don't or won't put the work in want to be convinced using emotions? And this is science. Literally the point of it is to remove emotion and bias.

Viviane it would be nice to share a parallel journey with your logic. Anyway with the greatest respect Vivianne I believe many " people" come here looking for answers, yet with your sharp and logical mind, I believe many "people" leave here not understanding your fascinating and compassionate heart. Well I gave it my most positive shot, because I am sure no past or present poster has thought you evil, but surviving with you is a challenge :-) ( now what was that straw man?")

I'm not so sure they do?

In my case I have no authority to discuss with certainty anything. However I would say I met some great, some interesting and some wonderfully challenging people to discuss my uncertain opinion with.

My qualifications are not those of an 'uneducated JW' and I have read a lot of books on evolution. However I would have no problem with someone who doesn't have those advantages take part in a conversation on the subject. I would also add that if you are genuinely asking a question then there are quite a few people here who can give you a really good well-informed answer on the topic.

If you had an engineering question you would be better off asking me (an engineer) than the cleaner, the only difference between us is that I studied engineering. It's the same thing with evolution, studying the subject makes your opinion worth more than a layperson's opinion.

The really good thing about science is that if you don't agree then all you have to do is study it yourself and you can see the evidence. No scientist would suggest you accept something due to someone having the right credentials, they would suggest that having empirical evidence that supports a well reasoned theory is the pinnacle of science.

A friend of mine who barely attended elementary once said that "scientists are stupid. It doesn't make sense, when you cross two dogs you still get a dog, not a cat". There you have it. This type of reasoning makes Christian fundamentalists an authority that can challenge the brightest and most educated.

Otherwise, my friend is a great guy, even a very smart one.

Nobody here is commenting with "absolute authority".

A lot of us, however, are commenting based on experience, reason, and what we've learned from sources other than the WTS.

    Q) What makes a poster feel qualified to comment with absolute authority on any subject? - I can comment to a reasonable degree on evolution. I'm a Biology graduate. Evolution was part of one of my modules. This means that I've studied evolution to level 4.

I also feel that I can comment to a reasonable degree on languages, in particular the history of the English language. I have no further or higher qualifications here. I do have GCSEs: French (grade A), German (grade A*) and English (grade C), in addition to being a fluent English speaker.

I have no absolute authority, or indeed any authority, on any topic.

I would consider Snare&Racket to be some kind of authority on medicine. He's a qualified medical doctor.

Fun part about evolutionary science is that you can go out and get some of the finest education from some of the finest minds on the planet absolutely free via an online course (my specialisms are in the arts, so I took that route for some anthropology courses with John Hawks), or you can go to a library and get out a book by an 'authority', or you can take a module or some classes on it at a bricks and mortar educational establishment.

It's not really like religion where someone speaks ex cathedra and that's all there is to it. If you bring the evidence, you get to have a debate.

Fun part of being a creationist seems to be not having anything like that and just needing to say 'I believe'.
