He was a CO in our congregation when I was new. Late 80's. At the time, he was very kind and personable.
Did anyone here ever meet Stephen Lett?

Met him once 15 years ago then again just recently. There was a significant change, it seems as if all the popularity has worn him down and made him much less approachable.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GB have "minders" who protect them from too much exposure to rank and file JWs wanting to be in their company. A little bit like royalty or celebrities whose wariness of rubbing shoulders with others stands out. To be fair, it must be kind of difficult navigating social situations when you are so well known and every one wants a piece of you.

They do Steve. They tell the r&f when enough is enough and escort them to a private area. One time I even heard one yell "5 more minutes" to those standing in line to meet Sanderson.

I remember he gave a talk at one of our assemblies and said, "parents, allowing your child to attend college is facilitating spiritual suicide." I still secretly applied and was out their house before the next assembly.

Actually, I knew both him and his father as Circuit Overseers. His father was not the freak show his son is. I remember him giving his first talk. I thought he was trying to make some sort of point by over emphasizing every word so freakishly. When he kept doing it I knew he was a weirdo.

Reading this thread makes me wonder if Lett has any idea how many "apostates" he has encountered face to face...
