i think my favorite eighties song is 'the killing moon' by echo and the bunnymen. anything eighties by bowie is great; duran duran, when in rome, big country, tears for fears, joy division...ok, i could go on endlessly, so i won't. :P i'm an eighties-o-phile

I thought the 80s were pretty dead... until I looked at my list. There was tons of great songs to come out during the decade. For starters:

Ride Like The Wind -- Cristopher Cross

Give Me The Night -- George Benson

Ladies Night -- Kool & Gang

Off The Wall, Rock With You; Billie Jean; Human Nature -- Michael Jackson

Special Lady -- Ray, Goodman & Brown

The Second Time Around -- Shalamar

    Cruisin' -- Smokey Robinson

Lady (You Bring Me Up) -- Commodores

Don't Stand So Close To Me -- Police

Another One Bites The Dust -- Queen

    Passion -- Rod Stewart

    Hey Nineteen -- Steely Dan

    Cool Night -- Paul Davis

You Can Do Magic -- America

I Can't Go For That; Private Eyes -- Daryl Hall & John Oates

Yeah, and I agree with the Fleetwood Mac in there as the google advertsing suggests.

For me, the 80s are a pretty forgettable decade music-wise. I liked the 90s better. But anyway, here are some limited observations:

Good stuff: Bruce Springsteen. Michael Jackson's Thriller (Yeah, Jackson turned into a nut case, but this album was good). Billy Joel was very good in the 80s. Prince's Purple Rain was good.

Could "Land Down Under" be by Men at Work?

    Let's see:

    1. "I Want to Know What Love Is" Foreigner
    2. any Tears for Fears songs
    3. "Take on Me" A-ha
    4. "What About Love?" Heart
    5. " Your Wildest Dreams" Moody Blues

any Madonna, "I Got My MInd Set on You" George Harrison (that one REALLY irritated me)

I love the 80's! Thanks for the thread !

GREAT 80’s Music was anything by:

    New Order

    The Clash

    The Violent Femmes

    The Smiths

    Echo and the Bunnymen

    Ministry

    Depeche Mode

    The Housemartins

    Talk Talk

    Scritti Polliti

    General Public

And, um, of course, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince

    Lousy 80’s Music was by:

    Lionel Richie

Eddie Murphy (remember “Party All The Time”?)

    Billy Ocean

    Rick Astley

    New Kids On The Block

    Stryper

    Michael Bolton

    Milli Vanilli

Top Reasons the 80s Were a Cooler Time to Grow Up (please add more to this list!) 1) MTV actually played music videos in the 80s.

    2) There were only one kind of Nike tennis shoes (white with a red swoosh), and they didn't cost $125.

    3) A comb in your back pocket is more practical and less painful than a ring through your nose.

    4) In the 80s playing video games actually meant going out to DO something.

    5) In the 80s, when you were out partying, you didn't have to worry about your Mom calling you on your cell.

    6) In the 80s we didn't have to worry about getting our heads blown off at school--unless you put a whole pack of Pop Rocks in your mouth and drank a coke.
