Had lunch with some friends during today's waste of time convention.

They spoke of the rumor floating around that the JWs will move away from these big regional conventions and have them at assembly halls and tie them in to kingdom halls.

They seemed to believe it was a pretty reliable source.

I think it would be too good to be true but who knows?

What say you? Anyone else heard this rumor?

Can't confirm, but it only makes sense. As they get smaller they'll have to move away from big assemblies. Plus going smaller they can probably make more money. At the circuit level they can tell the people what to donate, they haven't been so specific at the larger DC's.

Conventions are nothing more than big money makers. Although I would love to see the Friday dropped from the RC, these big gatherings will always exist.

If they don't have District Conventions (or whatever they're called now), imagine how difficult it will be for single JW's to meet anyone they don't already know. Meeting new people (ie girls) at the convention was the biggest draw for us back in the day.

If this is true, I suppose the only thing left for single JW's to do would be to cruise the (unapproved) online JW dating sites I've heard about. I imagine there'd be plenty of talks and eventually a woeful "Remember Dinah" video where they'd use the most feeble of connect the dot reasonings and skewed logic to somehow tie the account of Dinah in with the dangers of meeting "fringe" JW's online.

Having the longer convention including a Friday requires greater buy-in from the r n f, since they have take a vacation day and sometimes risk being fired. It is also more effective to have longer brainwashing sessions to keep them out of touch with reality. The greater the travel time, expense and sacrifice, the greater the sunk cost becomes.

To be honest when I was PIMI I always used to look forward to the conventions as a way to mix and mingle and catch up with ones I hadn't seen for a while. I was good just to have a change of faces. I do wonder about how they are expecting single ones to meet up. That is one thing I like about the Mormons (although just as culty) as at least they provide functions were their youth can socialize and meet other youth and the opposite sex. Wt if you read this my advise is "DON'T DO IT"!!!!

I thought that's been happening for years. Circuits/districts around me here in the Hudson Valley, NY, into Conn & New Jersey, down into northern suburbs of NYC have been assigned to Newburgh Assembly Hall for many years now, except maybe one or two years. Use to be we were assigned to Mass, Maine, or Albany NY. Newburgh is busy about every week with conventions into the fall. They've already started. Why rent a commercial venue when they can have smaller crowds in house. Make lots more $$$$$$$$$ that way----and we know that's what it's all about.

I see this happening and have been saying this for years, look at the turn out at the stadium in San Diego, its often said that these conventions are a money spinner for them but how on earth can they fleece their flock when there are mere handfuls in attendance, the cost of renting that facility must be eye watering, I expect to see wholesale circuit assembly halls being sold off in the UK next, apathy levels are at a peak now from the R&F they know it , we know it.

This has been forecast here several times over the last few years. It's already happening to a degree in some places.
