All the rumours notwithstanding, it does seem rather odd that Watchtower publications have never felt the need to defend Rutherford who, even by the official account, seems to have essentially abandoned his wife who was in poor health, and lived separately from her for many years. -

The Watchtower's answers to Walter Salter and Olin Moyle were interesting public documents in which Rutherford exposed himself. -

Very true. Sometimes the response is as revealing as the accusation. In no case more so than Olin Moyle. -

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if both Russell and Rutherford self proclaimed themselves they were of the anointed ?

In Walter Salter's letter, which I knew by this forum, Salter reported that Rutherford used him to import (illegally) alcohol from Canada. If the US government had know it, Rutherford had gone back to prison. -

In Russell's day everyone was anointed. And it was Rutherford who invented the idea of non-anointed Christians - a designation he encouraged others to apply to themselves, not himself. -

Finkelstein: Yes, both, Russell and Rutherford wrote many times, implicitly, that they belonged to the 144000 class. Rutherford called it as "temple class". -

This religion was NOT the immaculate conception we were all led to believe it was.
Nor, is it it any way pure and unadulterated by the pagan/ "false" religious practices of the world and era it was concieved in.

Rutherford stands out as the demon in the rough when dissecting the characters and personalities of the WTS heads, based on his controlling shrewdness and general lack of respect for people under his control.
He saw himself as the King of the Watchtower, ruler and Judge over all of humanity that god had bestowed toward him.
Is it any wonder why the WTS became so enforced with such formative self empowerment to the WTS leaders that followed him ?
He really set the pattern for how the next leaders were to conduct and perceive themselves,.
Use and abuse people with a iron fist but keep the power, money and control for yourself and for the sake of the organization that gives you all of this encompassing power and control. .

In my opinion many of the WT's evil roads lead back to "judge" Boozerford.
Russell sounds like he cherry picked all the things he liked about freemasonry and all the things he like about christianity added a little bit of his own wacky theories with a dash or two pyramidology and formed his own frankenreligion.
