Minimus: Jp , thanks for pointing out the way.

    You’re welcome!

    Wow!

I got a “Dislike” for saying “You’re welcome!” in response to a “Thanks” from the OP!

I’m beginning to think that Minimus might be right: “Some people take themselves so seriously. We can disagree with another point of view but there seems to be a few really pissed off people here. . . . Maybe they need some attention.”

Well said, Minimus. Well said. 👍

    JP1692:

I wonder if somebody thought your posts to Minimus were sarcastic? That maybe you think he needs to be ‘schooled’ on how to read news maybe because he’s right leaning? I don’t know.

I’m sure everybody that’s an adult on this forum knows the news outlets are biased and that you have to filter it all.

LHG: I wonder if somebody thought your posts to Minimus were sarcastic?

Could be. He asked a question. I answered it. Who knows what other people think. I try to avoid pointless speculation

LHG: That maybe you think he needs to be ‘schooled’ on how to read news maybe because he’s right leaning? I don’t know.

Again, Minimus asked a question. I answered it. Please don’t read motives or intentions into my posts that aren’t there. As you said, you don’t know.

LHG: I’m sure everybody that’s an adult on this forum knows the news outlets are biased and that you have to filter it all.

Well that clearly isn’t true. Many people on this forum openly acknowledge that they only consult highly biased and one-sided sources of news and other information.

Wasn’t that the point of Minimus’ question, to find out what news sources forum members listen to and read?

Jp1692 ... Sometimes, after having a few adult beverages, it's difficult for my fat thumb to hone in on the intended idiogram on my small screen. Once selected, this system doesn't allow me to undo and change. However, it wasn't me, but anytime I get a dislike, I know that someone must've had such an experience.

I never thought JPs comments were sarcastic. I truly believes he thinks he knows better than me or most people. Having said that, I do like him

WBF: Fun Fact, if you accidentally “Like” or “Dislike” a post when you meant to do the opposite, all you need to do is CLICK again on the choice you meant to make. When you refresh the page it will show your updated choice.

    Hi Minimus.

I like you too, even when we don’t agree! 👍

I totally understand that I come across as “thinking I know better than you or most people.”

Although that is not my intent, I get it. And I’m okay with that. Let me tell you why.

After being in a cult for 25 years and leaving it at the expense of having my two children shun me for over a decade, I have spent that time working hard to learn how to think clearly and scientifically and to detect bias and cultic thinking.

Whenever I see bullshit, I call it as I see it.

As I think you know, I am a high school science teacher with multiple degrees and a Master’s in Education. I earned all of these degrees as I was transitioning out of the cult and after leaving it.

It’s frustrating for me to see so many members of this forum—people who have left the JW cult and usually lost family members to it—demonstrate that they still have a cult mentality and can’t recognize bias, manipulation or propaganda.

As LongHairGal observed, everyone on this site is an adult (or should be). If they can’t stand the heat, then maybe they should stay out of the kitchen.

As a teacher and as a fellow ex-cult member, I’m just trying to share some hard won knowledge and some very painfully earned skills. If that sometimes comes across as arrogant, so be it. It probably only annoys the people that need it the most! 🤣

Incidentally, my question and your comments tell me why some people will read or view a network commentator and often times reach a certain opinion. For example, if you love the New York Daily News you might not like the New York Post so much. If you regard CNN as reliable, you might view Fox News as questionable. Most people are one way or the other. In news, most people take a side, liberal media or conservative. A minority have no view. They may just want to be informed of what happened in their neighborhood.
