The cleaning bug

I have a wife that literally cleans the house 24 7. It's hard on our marriage, our son has no natural affection for her. If we go to an assembly she literally spends two days waxing and polishing the car. She hand washes all the clothes before go into the washing machine because no machine could ever do as good a job as her.

It's no real secret that jws have a disproportionate amount of janitors in there ranks. They also stress how everything is unclean. Not lest of all there is the kingdom hall cleanings all the time. Ever see 50 people do the job of 3 , and take the same amount if time to get it done.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has to deal with this batshit behavior. I know it's not particularly a jw problem but the Wts really isn't a very constructive place for people with cleaning phobias.

That sounds like OCD and may need professional treatment. Can she be distracted with trips or meals out?

I clean my house, cars, etc as well. My wife does the laundry and a little dusting. It truly is from my JW up-bringing. I also can't stand to see things out of order. It's a form of OCD, I have no doubt about it.

As for your wife hand washing the clothes before she puts them into the washing machine, well that's a whole other level of "sick". She has an extreme form of OCD, and you should seek therapy and treatment for her immediately. Constant 24/7 cleaning like that (not merely picking up around the house) is also symptom of extreme OCD behaviour. Seek out help for her ASAP.

That definitely sounds like OCD and she needs professional help. Not a JW thing, more of a prison of her own mind. Please get her the help she needs to escape for her sake and that of the family. I'm so sorry for all of you. That's no way to live.

The JWs have so many janitors in their ranks because it's a way to make decent money and to control your own schedule. It's not an obsessive need for order and cleanliness .

I say calm the hell down. At least you have a wife. Most girls nowadays are so loose they would make a pornstar blush. Let alone would they ever pick up a pot or pan and cook something, or heaven forbid use a sponge to clean something. And wax your car??? Dammmm you guys must be Rollin in it. Can't even afford to purchase a car wash here lmao. I say calm down and let her be. U don't know what you have until you lose it (her in this case).

The one that really pissed me off was this years springs cleaning of the kingdom hall. They set an entire day a side to go over safety. The wts produced there own booklet on safety. Like something they wrote would replace ohs standards since they are above worldy laws.

Then you get 50 people show up to do the work of five. Then everyone start to trip over each other so the elders go for coffee leaving a bunch of women working who had to find childcare to be there.

Things do tend to work better and last longer if they are reasonably clean. What is "reasonable"? For some things, you need almost perfect. Glasses, contact lenses, and computer screens on small devices need to be immaculate because it only takes a little dirt to create a distraction. Some devices don't work well when even a tiny bit dirty.

Other things can be let go. True, a carpet lasts longer if clean, but constant cleaning it creates its own wear. Some clutter is inevitable, and I usually don't worry about it unless it gets difficult to find something or it is preventing something from working. At which point, I eliminate it from that area. Car washing can remove damaging salt and create a smooth surface (reducing drag, improving gas mileage) but is a waste of water and time if you do it all the time when not needed. (You can also wear out the finish if you are too aggressive in cleaning it all the time.)

As for cleaning the buildings, it is all a show. They want everyone that "qualifies" to feel it a privilege to clean things that can be cleaned just so much. Nearly anyone can run a vacuum cleaner. Nearly anyone can run a lawn mower (and scalp the lawns). But it does no good when things are crap. I have seen flowers that looked very sick, and not just right after planting. I have also seen things quickly and cheaply put together, and a bunch of rules imposed in lieu of using better materials to provide the illusion of how joke-hova is a "clean" god. It usually does not work.

Yet, they allow things to get filthy that really need cleaning. A good spiritual cleansing of humanity is in order. That LIE-ble is the first filth that has to go. Programming people that sex is dirty and to be highly regulated is filth. Programming people to accept stupid hardship is another piece of filth. The Torah and Quran are also books containing spiritual filth, and those also need to be purged. To me, what the jokehovians do is akin to polishing your computer screen while allowing thousands of viruses and worms to run unimpeded. I would rather put up with a small smudge on the screen on a computer that runs perfectly without any worms than a perfectly clean screen on a computer that freezes, crashes, and is running every worm and botnet on the planet.

Hence, I would prefer a building with a few dirty windows, a little dust on the carpet, a water spot on the bathroom faucet, and a few cars with light dust (especially if it's a drought) where humanity is free to advance, instead of a spotless building and the people's souls full of spiritual filth from Bibles, Torahs, and Qurans.
