If you haven't seen or read the Watchtower or Awake for even just a few years, it is a veritable shock to see how skimpy, superficial and trite they have now become. The dumbing down of the literature began several years ago, but my God!, it has gathered pace and makes the magazines of even the 1990s look like learned journals. No more.
It is a reflection of JWs' lack of exposure to non-JW literature that the average JW is actually proud - and not at all ashamed - of their literature. How nice and colorful it is! Look at the big font! Looik at the powerful images - especially of happy, happy, happy Witnesses going about their preaching work - in print, not in actuality.
And these tracts - they are so not "journals" - serve as the basis of their boring meetings and their passive publicity campaigns. What a joke!

Just because a magazine is printed, doesn't mean it's actually distributed or actually read and it's probably easier to be the most widely distributed magazine when you publish it twice a month. I'm sure it doesn't hurt business when the Publishers or should I say Paper Boys and Paper Girls who distribute them for free, are your best customers andthey have stacks and stacks of them lying around in their homes because they feel guilty about throwing them out.
Either way, the magazines once though of as the spiritual lifeline of JW's, is going the way of the dinosaur. What ever will there be to do on Sunday after the Public Talk?

Actually recently they've cut the circulation numbers in half, because they made their magazines bi-montly. So even though the circulation numbers went up from 53M to 59M, effectively they were cut in half because of switching from monthly to bi-monthly. And yeah, it's only 16-page right now, whereas many other magazines contain 60-100 pages or even more. -

its an impressive stat, it cant be denied, but they never publish stats of how many unread mags there are out there, they clearly must know because when we as jw's would return to houses where they had taken them and asked " did you get the chance to read the mags we left last time?"
how many times would the answer be NO? yet we'd say " well perhaps you would like to read these new ones?"
and the usual stupid pattern would emerge of the RV! pointless, wasteful and lazy, typical of life as a jw.
