Exelder I have never actually heard the Smurf story or any issues with Smurfs. Perhaps it never reached us here in the UK.
Punk As a Brit living in Britland, we didn't hear of the Smurf story. I think it would have been treated as a bonkers story, probably spread by 'bitter apostate
Oh it did, believe me....I know as they were given away with petrol coupons back in the 70s. I collected them( grandpa) and kept schtum about it.

another john denver story I heard from this elder ( he must have really hated poor john...) Mr. Denver was on the johnny carson show and did his usual " asking the witnesses to leave" but johnny carson said the witnesses can stay.
They just make up stories about anything/one who is popular.
