Will Brexiteers be happy with Phase 2 of Brexit?

"Brussels plans to insist that in order to get that "quick and dirty" deal, the prime minister would have to sign up to EU conditions: alignment with EU environmental, state aid and tax regulations for example."

Would such a deal represent what they thought they were voting for in the referendum?

Being pragmatic I would be content with an exit that safeguards us from further political union. Further adjustments can be made in the long term.

Yes, I agree with Cofty - I want the UK to have no political union with the EU.

Mutually beneficial trade deals should be sorted out, however long they take.

I'm realistic in that I know Brexit won't happen over night. But I'm reasonably happy - Boris has won a huge majority, giving him the clear democratic mandate he needs. Also, I feel as if Boris genuinely wants to do Brexit (compare his behaviour with that of Theresa May's).

Hopefully Brexit will begin in February.

Would such a deal represent what they thought they were voting for in the referendum? - it's impossible to answer this question. People had the choice of UK remain or UK leave on the ballot. Those Brexiteers who want a hard Brexit, No Deal need to accept that Boris will do the best he can to get us out.

Since the referendum, I've felt that certain "compromises" (aka backroom deals) were going to be made with the E.U. which some/many would feel were red lines.

Ireland/N.I. situation also looks to have taken a new twist.

Ireland/N.I. situation also looks to have taken a new twist - does it? First I've heard of it.

As far as I can see, Boris Johnson said he'd put the border in the Irish Sea and he's just been elected with a huge majority.

Surely Boris can get on with putting the border in the Irish Sea in due time?

    What am I missing here?

The EU don't get to set any conditions, that's what we voted to end, their influence.

We get to top giving them money and they get to stop telling us what to do and how to live.

The UK should create it's own trading block and invite other EU countries to joint it, that's all the EU should have ever been, that's what we joined, not what it became.

The main thing is we leave and "negotiations" should consist of walking in, telling them to get fucked and then walking out.

This isn's Theresa May's government, Boris Johnson is an intellectual and he can see through the schemes. Sure, Brussels wants to demand basically for the UK to remain in the German Empire without representation, that was Theresa May's deal was and it got rightfully rejected.

The UK should exit with or without a trade deal, trade will happen, Boris understands history and the UK is the richest state in Europe - Europe can't survive without the UK, if Brexit happens and Merkel continues to impose her will upon the EU member states or tries to 'punish' the UK with trade barriers, there will be more exits, people need to trade with the UK, they're not going to be happy just trading with Portugal, Greece and Turkey.

Could you, guys from the UK, explain briefly what are you pissed off most at the EU/Germany?

Except from paying the EU money.

stillMS - yes, the EU is a political entity that we never voted to join. We voted to join a trading bloc called the EEC in 1975. Then that was replaced with the EU in the mid 90s. We, the voters, weren't consulted.

Also, in the current situation, EU law holds sway over UK law - not good. Leaving the UK would mean that the EU courts will not interfere in how the UK governs itself.

Are you from the US, stillMS?

Imagine there's a trading bloc between the US, Canada, Mexico, and other countries of the Americas.

You guys have a referendum to join this trading bloc - sounds good, doesn't it.

But twenty years after you voted to join, the trading bloc disappears and is replaced with a political union. Let's call it the AU - the American Union.

Now, AU courts have the power to overrule US judges. Not nice, is it? You would end up with Costa Rican judges telling Yanks how to live their lives. I'm pretty certain that if this kinda scenario happened, Yanks would go nuts.

And there's more: two EU projects that the UK wisely opted out of were the single currency (Euro) and the Schengen Zone.

The Euro has been a disaster - just look at the state of Greece. Tony Blair wanted us to join the Euro but was talked out of it by Gordon Brown (thank God). Pro-Euro supporters like Blair and Nick Cable have never acknowledged that it has been a disaster and that they were wrong to try and push it onto us.

The Schengen Zone (an area of EU countries where EU citizens can move freely without presenting their passports) has been exploited by illegal immigrants, terrorists and other undesirables.

Calais in France is separated from the UK by the English Channel. It has had serious problems over the past few years with plenty of migrants, who are looking to get to the UK. Some claim to be refugees. How the hell can you have refugees leaving France? These people aren't being persecuted by France, right?

Some migrants literally go at lorry drivers with knives or other weapons, to get illegal entry to the UK.

They just think the UK is a soft touch and would like to live here. Hopefully, Boris Johnson will get us the hell out and sort out these and related issues.

A few years ago, Angela Merkel just decided to let in millions of migrants from Syria. They could be ordinary families, refugees, terrorists, anyone. She just let them in to Germany and then started moaning that other countries weren't taking their share!

The Syrian immigrants - legal and illegal - were presented with shiny new German/EU passports. That now meant they could move to any EU country they wanted. The UK wants to regain control of its own borders.

Leaving the EU will help us in this regard. There will be migration from non-EU countries to sort out, too, but the Conservatives seem to be serious in tackling these issues.

    LOVE UNI HATE EXAMS:

Thanks for explaining this thing called the European union and how it came about...Being from the US I wasn’t up on all the finer points about this. I remember all the hoopla back when this all came about. I visited England twice in the seventies.

But what you describe sounds like a bait and switch (except the switch didn’t happen right away). What an outrage and a disaster that should never have happened in the first place..handing your autonomy to somebody else!!!..I’m sorry for the shit Europe has become...

Glad the Brits kept their currency and I hope their Brexit goes well.
