This style of writing reminds me of Armstrong's 'The Plain Truth' where every sentence it seems has a few words that are italicized for emphasis. It also recalls teachers who, worried students might miss the point, emphasize almost everything they say.
As a guide to writing once said, Be sparing in what you emphasize - otherwise it will be a distraction from readers comprehending the content of what you write.
