It's all about the PR, Rebel. Good PR makes a good performer and one who does exactly as the producers say. To be talented doesn't come into it.
By the way I used to deliver milk and newspapers to Andrew Ridgley's parents home, and we often used to see George and Andy locally walking about.

Kate, unless you grew up in Watford, you did not deliver newspapers to Andy Ridgleys home, as he grew up in Bushey Heath, and attended Cassio college in Watford with George Michael whose parents owned a Greek restaurant in Bushey. They both attended Cassio college, as did the three girl back-up singers who appeared on Top of the pops with them when they were " Wham" doing the first hit.
Furthermore Andy Ridgely purchased a nightclub in Rickmansworth,which was co-owned with a group of his former "we" fucked our exams up friends from Cassio college Watford, and my brother was almost apart of that bankrupt adventure.

Yes Rebel it was a little village called Hatch End close to Bushey Heath, that's where I grew up and where Andrew Ridgleys parents lived in the 80's. It was in a road called Braeside Close, it was after Wham were already famous and I don't think Andy ever lived with his parents there, they just came to visit.

Dwight Yoakum is a rather greasy-looking character. After his concert, I was with some work friends (did not attend the concert), we were at a cabaret (weeknight, the place was empty). This huge guy came over and asked if I would like to return with his boss to his hotel room. I said "What? Do I look like a prostitute? Get lost."
haha, so he left, and my friend grabbed my arm (she was a big country muzak fan) .... " talesin, that's Dwight Yoakum." I looked over and sho 'nuff, there he sat with his bodyguard. I thought that was a sleazy thing to do, but we are not very star-struck around here.
I worked with Taylor Hackford on Delores Claiborne (I was a stand-in for pre-production location shoots, but he already had someone for the filming). He also directed An Officer and A Gentleman, White Knights, and Ray, as well as many others. Oh, he's a real 'dick', and is married to Helen Mirren.
Worked with (and met) Kelsey Grammar on a straight-to-video flick (it was just ... feckin' .... awful!) as an extra. In one scene, I am standing with him and the other lead, Amanda something, and it's one of those "Look, there I am!" moments. Kelsey Grammar is a real nice guy. And Denny Doherty worked on that one as well - he is a local guy (remember, he was one of the Mamas and Papas, "California Dreamin'). RIP Denny

From across the pond . . . having grown up in Los Angeles, the son of a music publisher/record label owner, I have known great musicians all my life and especially when becoming active in the music business. I'm not going to drop names of the many that I have known (you can PM me for that); however, I will give you the story of Otis Redding, whom I met when quite young. My father was the first person to record him. He was 18 or 19 at the time. His talent was fully realized at that age. Because my father didn't have strong promotion for his label and because he would not practice payola (paying radio program directors--it's technically illegal--he was a Witness), the records didn't go anywhere. Otis didn't give up. Within two years he landed a contract with a major label that did have the power to promote him, and the rest is history.
I have observed that world class musicians have these things in common: a great deal of talent, drive, are allied with those who have drive, discipline and luck.
