This vote has been ludicrous in my opinion.

    The voters were offered:

£350m per week for the NHS

    They won't get it

Free access to the single market

    They won't get it

    Full border control

    They won't get it.

The EU will still call the shots even though we voted out.

? What are you talking about?

The £350 million was really £166 million and the rebates we got back we were told how to spend...

We can now spend that £166 million plus the rest as we want.

French and German companies are pleading we get free access to the single market given we buy £40 billion a year from France and £100 billion a year from Germany...we will get access to the single market and it won't cost £166 million a week...

Full border control? When we leave we most certainly will control our borders...

Slidin Fast. IMO there was only a referendum so that Cameron could bolster his position in his party - and he thought a 'remain' vote was a foregone conclusion.

Since promising the referendum though, things have changed. The refugee problem turned into a crisis and some parts of the media focussed on the fact that someone migrating to continental Europe could come to Britain under the 'free movement' policy. Although Turkey isn't an EU nation, there was also a lot of attention on what might happen if Turkey joined. A common theme was about 70 million Turks could be heading for Britain - as if an entire population would want to do that.

Immigration was the main issue I'm sure, though many kept their heads down for fear of being accused of racism. Expressing concerns about immigration levels is not racism. Unfortunately, racist factions do use it as a flag of convenience.

Indeed, 250 billion (potentially) can be printed to shore up the markets and the currency. That's about 31 years worth of net EU contributions. I suspect that the NHS is at the back of the queue.

So we could quite possibly continue in a type of limbo for up to 10yrs.

People are already adjusting personal budgets incase of hard times ahead, thus contributing to a self-fulfilling prophecy of a recession.

David Cameron on resigning Friday morning looked destroyed. What a different beast strutting around Brussels yesterday.

Dream team to save the west announced on LBC late last night.

Merkel, most powerful leader in the EU. May for new UK Prime Minister. Clinton, US President. Sturgeon, most powerful UK political party leader at the moment. La Garde, leader of the IMF & I don't know who she is, but a female for Clinton's running mate. Thus shattering the glass ceiling politically. Stear the global economy sensibly, negating strutting around the world's political stage spraying testosterone & egoes into a difficult time in history.

Imagine you are member of a fancy golf club (cost: 350 pounds a year) and as part of that you get to use the fancy golf club bar with live entertainment. Now suppose you leave the gulf club but still want to use the bar. Other members who have left the golf club has been allowed to use the bar, however at a price of 166 pounds a year.

    • Do you think you are going to be allowed to use the bar for free?
    • Do you think it would be good business sense for the golf club to show other members they could leave and still use the bar for free?

It would be suicidal for the union to let the UK get away with using the free market without paying or adhering to it's rules. For starters, it would be deeply unfair to member nations and would no doubt leave to more nations trying to quit the union. Regarding the "you can't live without us" argument, here is some news: EU trade with UK is 3% of EU GDP, UK trade with EU is 14% of UK GDP. Do the math, worsening of trade is going to hit you guys 3 times harder.

On top of that comes the fact that worsening of EU/UK trade relations will impact the UK in other ways, for starters it will retard investment, draw away parts of the financial center etc. etc. Then there are the internal UK consequences: Scotland might stay in the UK if they are guaranteed full access to the single market. Imagine what happens when that won't be the case and oh, by the way, the growing Edinburgh financial market is moving to mainland EU because you guys just lost the financial integration with the EU that made Edinburgh desirable. All that gives the EU additional leverage.

Furthermore there is the "surprise"-factor. Perhaps Germany really really want that trade deal, but perhaps Romania is like: "meh, not so much. There is an upcoming election and our voters would really like to see someone stuck it to the UK". Whatever deal is proposed is is going to be voted on by 27 countries.

we will get access to the single market and it won't cost £166 million a week...

Lol. Show me the official reports about leaving the EU that suggests such a thing. Here is a sample:

If Britain were to leave the EU, it would face a difficult dilemma: having to negotiate access to the EU’s single market in exchange for continued adherence to its rules – or losing access in return for regulatory sovereignty that would be largely illusory.

    Lol read my previous post.

You also say "This will happen or that will happen" where it isn't so...yet...negotiations haven't even began...so it is a bit rich to ask me to deliver quotes on things when no-one can quote anything yet because the EU and the UK have not began negotiations.

We can both quote experts but equally the experts range from one extreme to the other...they are all opinions and not facts...yet.

Many large UK institutions have delivered reports on the impact of EU membership on the EU and potential impact of leaving the EU and top diplomats are voicing in their opinion... so far I have not heard anyone say that the UK will likely be a member of the single market without obeying the rules of the other members.

    notsurewheretogo:

There can be "no single market a la carte" for the UK, EU leaders have warned, after meeting in Brussels to discuss the UK vote to leave the bloc.

Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, said anyone wanting access to the EU's internal market had to adhere to strict criteria "without exception".

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36659900

I wonder why they are saying these things if they know they will eventually roll back on the statements because the UK has a better negotiation position...
