Could be a retaining pond....we have an apartment complex going up across the street and they have a retaining pond to protect a stream nearby, required by state government.

When we read the article, we are lead to believe that this is some kind of charity work when, in fact, the dam itself belongs to the Watchtower!!

Also, in 2013, that dam was visually inspected by SCOTT M. BRAYMER, P.E. An Environmental Engineer working at the Dam Safety Section of New York. He didn't seem alarmed: "The inspection revealed that the dam is generally well maintained, although additional clearing of woody vegetation is needed."

Think and pause to a second: This lake is mostly artificial and the Watchtower will need to maintain and control it as it is there's!

Wow... what a waist of funds!

That amount of riprap had to cost a lot of money!

I've seen several Bethelites refer to that lake as "Big Blue" on social media lately.

Watchtower structural workers raise the concrete wings of the primary spillway an additional four feet and repair the structural cracks.

Surprised they weren't labeled as "volunteers" rather "workers.

Repairing cracks in a damn wall??

    Hahahahaha!

That sounds like an appropriate metaphor for the state of the Society! Always in disrepair and full of dangerous leaks that can affect safety and lives!

Blue Lake Dam Improvements: Under DEC Regulations, Suez Water New York (SWNY) is a part owner of the Blue Lake Dam, which is located on Sterling Forest Lake in Warwick, NY. Sterling Forest Lake is the water source for the Blue Lake Water Treatment Plant. The Blue Lake Dam is on property currently owned by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York (“Watchtower”). SWNY entered into an agreement with Watchtower where Watchtower would make the improvements to Blue Lake Dam required by the DEC and SWNY would make a contribution to the work upon completion. The work was completed in 2015 and SWNY will make the required contribution of $824,000 once the final documentation has been provided by Watchtower.

Sounds like a nice little earner for the Society , especially as the bulk of the work will have been done with free labour & much of the assets ( such as earth moving equipment etc ) were already on site as part of the World HQ construction project.

But what always annoys me about these kind of stories is that they are just puff pieces by the WTBTS telling everyone how wonderful they are. Wow - they are doing some work to reinforce a dam on their own land & billing the owner - big deal. They are always blowing their own trumpet - totally against the scriptural principles they claim to uphold.

They could stock it with trout and have the brothers provide a :"suggested donation" for each trout they kept.

    Hi RubaDub

They could stock it with trout and have the brothers provide a :"suggested donation" for each trout they kept.

    Why? It already is?

Blue Lake, also called Sterling Forest Lake, is located inside Sterling Forest State Park. Blue Lake is stocked annually with 800 yearling Brown Trout, 100 two-year-old Brown Trout and 800 yearling Rainbow Trout. Anglers can also target Largemouth Bass, Chain Pickerel and panfish. Blue Lake has a nice boat launch and provides anglers with a good opportunity at catching some fish.
