Who knew Judy Blume would be so controversial after all these years?

Yes, I have been very bad. Some of these books I read growing up as a JW. Never understood all of the fuss about some of them. Lord of the Flies was recommended by a teacher.

    What about

    • Stranger in a Strange Land
    • Time Enough for Love
    • The Puppet Masters
    • Something Wicked This Way Comes
    • Stella Luna
    • The Scarlet Letter
    • The Lord of the Rings
    • The Portrait of Dorian Gray
    • Roots

Didn't make the list in the 90's?

But now I have a good list to take with me to the book store.

I remember now that my Mom told me she ran out to buy "I, the Jury" when she found out that Mickey Spillane became a JW in the 50's. She was absolutely shocked that it was such a horrid book. I better add that to the list too.

"To the making of many books there is no end, and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh." -- Ecclesiastes something. (Wearisome to the flesh, but oh, what a great way to expand your mind! )

I have always been a prodigious reader, mostly mysteries, sci-fi and non-fiction books. I'm surprised there weren't more books on the list.

Well, I've only read 11 of the books on this list, but it appears that the censors may have done us a great favor. This looks like a pretty good reading list.

I've read about twenty of them. I've seen movies based on about a dozen more of them. I can see why a few of them might need to put on a shelf where kids can't get to them (Madonna's Sex for example), but some of them are just plain crazy. I know that Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer get on the list for use of the "N" word, but I'm sorry that's how people talked 150 years ago.
