I like watching all the Chicago shows. Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD,

But this week they showed a JW couple that refused a procedure that was left to the concience of a JW. it was the use of a a machine that captured your loss of blood in a operation and it redirected the loss to the body. When the wife of the patient reversed the decision, the husband codemed his wife, accusing her as daming him to eternity for her decision.

This is really far from reality. Did you see the show?

I saw the show too and found the way they spoke more of like the 700 club folks, not jws. They agreed to do the surgery with the machine, at least that is what I thought they said. In the end the husband forgave the wife . I just found the way they spoke so odd- it clearly showed that the writers only had a superficial knowledge of jws.

That's right Violas. They did bring out the blood fractions, but much was missing.

The husband had a little beard on his face. A JW no no!

I also thought the way they presented the alcoholic who came in with DT's was abysmal . The nurse was so judging and treated him with contempt. They ordered him 1 mg of Ativan and I was shocked. I worked in Addiction and Adult Psych for quite a while and DT's are a very serious .. They use all sorts of meds for this and 1 mg of Ativan is not likely to do very much. A nurse ended up giving him a drink and while I agree with her that he has to want to quit, still in real life she would have been fired. I never heard of anyone ever doing that.

I thought they presented the jws as radical but with a sympathy . The older doc was right they did go against the express wishes of the patient.

It is a rare TV show that ever portrays JWs speaking their language and not 'generic' evangelical Christian lingo.

Scriptwriters are a lazy bunch -and viewers aren't far behind in accepting any dialogue as long as it's dramatic.

Toes up: Good observation. I missed that

Viola: I also wondered about that too

Steve: You're right about the laziness of those script writers

Robo: I live in a big city and there was a Large article in a Major News Paper that featured that procedure done on a accepting JW. The JW in the article quoted from a WT publication that this was alright. I imagine that some would object due their own consciences. I suppose every has the right to choose a medical procedure whether you are a JW or not. Chicago Med was not portraying the JW's accurately in this matter.

JWs are not required to accept cell-salvage.

It is a "conscience decision". A lot of JW consciences tell them "no".

I've heard numerous JWs say that it is better to be "safe than sorry" (from Jehovah's viewpoint) and so reject anything and everything even remotely related to blood.

Frequently, the HLC actually has to tell those "super strict" JWs to lighten up. "Bloodless surgery" is often not really "bloodless" surgery, strictly speaking. If a JW is too rigid in what he he accepts, or rather refuses to accept, then even "bloodless" surgeons will refuse to operate.
