Fossilized foot prints, how do they explain it away?

Yes Master_Bob - you are right - the WT does not teach that the universe, including the Earth, was created as part of the creative days. My post did not mean to intimate that but on re-reading it through I can see that it does. To be fair, they also do mention that the age of the earth could be billions of years old in the Insight book.

Regardless, my point was that the WT uses very vague language to describe the length of the creative days which allows for a wide range of opinions which can easily lead to conflict with the scientific consensus. They can present a public persona of "the Bible and ourselves do not contradict science" whilst allowing individual members to hold completely nonsensical views.

Of course their teaching contradicts scientific consensus. The very foundation of their "scientific" explanation about all these matters is blatantly ridiculous. Just read the "Deluge" lemma in Insight. The only people that believe that "the Bible and ourselves do not contradict science" are those who obtain their scientific knowledge exclusively from WT literature, namely the majority of JWs.

IMHO WT doctrines related to creation/flood are the easiest to factually be proven false.

Crazyguy - "...how do they explain it away?"

Same way they explain away everything else that refutes their worldview:

"It's Satan's World, Satan is the Father of Lies, therefore Satan's World lies."

They do mention that the earth is billions of years old now. Here's a quick one I found at jw.org faq:

Age of the earth. Some creationists teach that the earth is just a few thousand years old. However, according to the Bible, the earth and the universe existed before the six days of creation. (Genesis 1:1) For that reason, Jehovah’s Witnesses have no objection to credible scientific research that indicates the earth may be billions of years old.

But Master_Bob is right, they do believe the Earth was there BEFORE the creative days began, which of course makes no sense. Here's a quote from the Insight book under "Creation":

Genesis 1:1, 2 relates to a time before the six “days” outlined above. When these “days” commenced, the sun, moon, and stars were already in existence, their creation being referred to at Genesis 1:1. However, prior to these six “days” of creative activity “the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep.” (Ge 1:2) Apparently, a swaddling band of cloud layers still enveloped the earth, preventing light from reaching its surface.

Well how old the earth maybe according to them isn't really what this thread was about. It seems to me that scientists don't really ever think that a foot print of a humanoid in rock is ever just 6000 year old or newer, they all seem to believe these foot prints are very old and unless the jws pull the Satan did it argument they have nothing.

That is very easy: Before the flood, the Nephilim went around doing their evil things and due to their great weight left footprints.

Then the flood came and it is a well-known fact (as you can verify yourself if you are caught in a flash-flood) that a huge flash flood, where the land is suddenly covered by several meters of water, will act as to preserve whatever small indentations are in the topsoil, in particular, volcanic ash.

The pressure of several meters of water then turned these footprints into fossils, just as a footprint left by a diver at the bottom of the ocean will rapidly fossilize.

So there you see, the presence of these footprints actually verify the biblical account as being accurate and provide tangible evidence of the Nephilims existence!

They'll say that the dating techniques that scientists use are unreliable and mistaken.

" They'll say that the dating techniques that scientists use are unreliable and mistaken. "

I am very ashamed to say that I used this type of reasoning whilst a JW, and I am ashamed to say that I then put the matter out of my mind.

My mind was closed, tight shut, by the JW Cult.

No matter what you present to such a closed-minded person, they will not confront it.

One day though, if we are lucky, just something gets through the Mental Defenses, and the JW begins to question, to confront the evidence.

    From the O/P

These foot prints are thought to be anywhere from 20,000 to 2 million years old. So what do Christians and JWs do to try to explain these away.

So the Dubs I know would say that they do not have to think... they have it in writing,

By the use of "Bible Chronology" they say that Adam lived from 4026 BCE and God's word is infallible

Creative Days? The latest comment I can find is "Awake Oct 2015 p9" which referred back to brochure "Was Life Created?"

"How long, then, were the creative days? The Bible does not say; however, the wording of Genesis chapters 1 and 2 indicates that considerable lengths of time were involved"

    So anything is now possible.....

Science(s) has shown that this earth as well as the universe is much older than what the ancients thought or could possibly comprehend.

Historical human ignorance is a indefensible fact.
