How the Bethel family responded to the bethel layoffs (profanity warning ***)

Totally appropriate reactions. I'm mad as hell and I'm not a Bethelite!

I hope more and more see the video.

I was on a Bethel tour (long story) in 2007. While we were waiting for our ride to the airport, a very disgruntled 20+ year front desk guy was grumbling with a few other workers about the same. Here it is almost 10 years later from then!

I think the GB has managed to spread a poison pill to every congregation that has taken in a laid off Bethelite or Missionary. How pro WTBT$ are they going to be after getting dumped on?

They will probably keep their mouths shut long enough to use whatever congregational contacts they can for jobs and anything that didn't fit into the trunk of a car if they even had a car.

Let's review: Few job skills, little to no education. Confidence shaken or destroyed. Beliefs in question. Strained relationships with one's mate. A realization that their service to Jehovah was ultimately worthless.

God's house tossed them in the dumpster.

I watched the video and am very surprised about the sudden-ness of being discharged with no prior warning by having your stuff boxed up and put in your car (or by the front door).

I was of the impression that bethelites being let-go or "reassigned" got some sort of a letter and had at least a month's notice. It almost sounds like somebody being fired from a secular job for cause and they don't want the person on the premises because it's a security risk. And, at least a secular employer gives the person their last paycheck and maybe severance, etc.

If true, (and it probably is), it makes the religion sound heartless and literally kicking people to the curb and their stories of "reassigning" people just B.S. unless some privileged characters there are actually being reassigned (sent to another branch).

At least this brother is young enough to start over! Pity those who are older! As the poster above said, this is a bad advertisement to send these fired bethelites into the congregations.

Once they are settled, I am sure some of them are going to open their mouths about what went on at bethel. I'm sure some will be resentful when they see how hard it is to live in the REAL world. I'm also afraid that any generosity these ex-bethelites receive in the congregations may be short-lived as the rank and file may not feel like giving money to these people.

They seem to want to get rid of those getting laid off as quickly as possible so they won't spread kind of negative gossip about the new management. And I would agree that they are spreading poison to the congregation they return or go to and news will spread from there. This is very bad new for the Governing Body and it could spell serious trouble for the GB with so many haters developing over this ordeal and completely selfish act preformed by the Governing Body hey their lives might even be in danger because 90% of the Bethel family will be doing private shearches on the internet to find out what their fate will be and it ain't gonna be pretty from my perspective. People are dumb but not as dumb as the Governing Body thinks, and it will be no spiritual paradise for them siting on top of A CHEMICAL DUMB waste site, could things get any uglier?

It is a very terrible thing the GB did to those people who put their trust in them and the news will and is spreading fast that these guys are selfish delusional clowns in sheep's clothing.

Hey we might be seeing some big protest by ExBethelites over this as those that leave do more internet searches and they some how unite because they have many phone numbers and they will connect I'm sure of it. This thing is not gonna die down it is going to smolder and then flare up in the near future for this crooked bunch of GB. Maybe a class action lawsuit as many were literally thrown out with no place to go something has got to be in the works to retaliate for some justice for those so cruelly treated by those they gave their trust to.

The snuggly warm feeling that the Governing Body feels is going to change there at the chemical dump waste clean up site headquarters in Warwick NY in the boonies as tension mounts in spiritual paradise.

Brokeback - Would they be allowed to live in Warwick on top of this chemical dump? Wouldn't the county/city/state be responsible for allowing this? I don't know anything about this but it must be is there a possibility it has been cleaned up and safe by now?!

As far as clean up of this area i think we can not trust this self serving megalomaniacs called the Governing Body to take proper precautions when it comes to the welfare of the flock. I'm sure they took what ever legal precautions that would allow them to keep building their real estate but may have hidden certain facts that will come and bite them in the ass in the future.

Sadly I think most reassignees will just suck it up and become regular faithful types. I mean they have wasted many years if not decades and are probably too old to have kids so they will hate to admit they have been fooled.

About half a dozen London ex-bethelites (aged late 30's through early fifties) landed in our circuit in the spring and the men are continuing as elders. I don't think there are any pioneering yet but they are probably scrabbling around getting work and accommodation sorted first.

No sign of rebellion at all. But there was a definite feel of comparative bewilderment and shock and dare I say apathy among those I have heard reports about. They haven't come out beating the zealousness drum for sure!

My uncle was a Bethelite from his early 20s to mid 60s when he got "laid off" but AFAIK he presents it as a new opportunity.
