Some People Enjoy Being Jehovah's Witnesses For Various Reasons

I also think it has a lot to do with personality. Some people just feel so responsible for the world and I think they must be much more likely to see a religion such as JW as a way to make that manageable. I don't feel any responsibility for the world at all--I just want to understand it. So if it doesn't make sense to me, I just keep moving. But I don't need to think I'm smarter or better than people who are trying to fulfill what they sees as their responsibilities, even if it makes me sad that they believe things and spend their lives in ways that I find useless. That's what I believe--but I find it very hard to keep my mouth shut and let them have their choices!

    Minimus,

This is your best thread yet.... really!

Everyone has said what I already wanted to say.

I am sorry that I ever was a fool enough to fall for this cult. It is just disgusting....

    Shamus.

I think I enjoyed being a JW because of the security it gave me as I was growing up. I always had the option of jumping between 2 camps as mum is a Witness and dad isn't. I was never pressurised either way. Since hitting my late teens, other circumstances took hold, and it was easy to just drift away, but not completely. I sort of pretty much carry on with my own life now, have made loads of great friends who aren't Witnesses, but still a part of me belongs there at a KH or at an assembly/convention or sometimes even at the door, or when I see a brother or sister in the supermarket, and stop and chat. I remember then that I had some great friends there too. A part of me will always be 50% Scott and 50% JW, I think. Its what I am nowdays.

Scooby, it's interesting that you were caught in the middle, between 2 parents. One was a believer, the other "worldly". Those of us that had been raised in the "truth" always envied your type. If you wanted a birthday , your "worldly father" saw to it that you got it. You were a compromised youth. Lucky you!

The main reason I think JW's enjoy being JW's is because they feel safe. They begin to believe that they are different in a better way, than everyone else. They feel superior because of their "spirituality". When they give up opportunities such as money, schooling or fame, they feel like they've proven themselves. Then when they are looked up to by others, they recieve pride and glory for their faithfulness. Once they get in their little coocoon, they don't WANT to look elsewhere. They are satisfied to live their lives with their heads in the sand. And if anyone tries to burst their little bubble, they have the "organization" right there behind them, to back them up.

It's good for lazy people cos you don't have to think or owt. Just say the right things at the right time straight out of a mag or book.

The book study I went to years ago was interesting enough cos the elders son used to, well, spank his monkey, while he was sitting on the floor next too his dad in full view of everyone while his dad was giving the study. One time when he got to a bit on masturbation...

Knowing that a good 75% of the young women are virgins. That's the only good thing I can think of.

Thanks for reminding me Minimus! But it was a nice thought when I was in the borg. After I got out and came back in touch with a guy who used to be in my congregation, I found out how many weren't what I thought.
