Why start preaching work in 1876? Something to ask JW's who are still in

We learn from the bible that the characters that preached doomsday messages, such as Lot, Noah, etc all got to see the result of the message they preached, we studied that the final judgement from God was seen by the preacher as well as the people that heard and ignored the message.

My point is this, it would have been ridiculous for Noah to start preaching to people, put the fear of God in all the listeners that the Flood is coming, build the ark and then as a result, nothing happens to them. Even if the flood would have happened later, let's say 50 years after Noah and all the people that heard him have died from natural causes. There would have been NO point for Noah to have received the command from God to preach at that time, if no one would have lived to see it the flood.

God would have simply waited to start the preaching work at a later time so that the ones hearing the message would also get to see the fulfillment.

I think the same should apply today, why start preaching in the 1870's, scare all those people into obedience and then not one of them see the end? All those people, perhaps in the millions are all dead, the ones that preached and the ones that heard and ignored, all dead from natural causes. If God supported the JW's, wouldn't he have acted while they were still alive, like the bible examples we studied?

    Just saying....

    Good point, fedup.

How many years before the flood did Noah preach? 40? +/-? Not 140! (2016 - 1876)

I knew an old sister who was adamant Armageddon would come in 1999.

Her logic was that the Watch Tower was first published in 1879 and 1879 plus 120 years was 1999.

Excellent point! I have been crystallizing the same thought linked with the unimportance of 1914 for while now.
But you have the gist of my idea.

To the point - with that reasoning - why didnt the preaching work start 200 years or 1000 years ago - or never stop after Jesus?

The last day of 1914 just doesn't make sense on that level, and the Overlapping Generations does not fix it.

Lets never mind that world conditions have dramatically been improving since jesus day, so the bible prophecy is BS as is the catalog of Nostradamus:)

The early Bible Students believed there was a harvest period from 1874 to 1914, 40 years, at which time the final harvest would take place, the end.

Remember that the teachings back then do not compare with what the WTS teaches today.

I ask an elder in field service one day that a house holder said we have cried wolf for so many decades how can we be believed. Then I thought even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just because they seem right twice a century does mean their clock is working.

....but Armageddon could arrive at any moment now...remember that the 1914 (overlapping) generation is still alive and well!

Back to the OP, it just doesn't make any sense that the preaching work would go on for more than 140 years, it just doens't. There is no record in the Bible like that. Who benefits from it? Everyone's dead. And everyone keeps dying who hear's the word.

    Who benefits from it?

The Watchtower's literature distribution and circulation.

Why not uphold devised doctrines that would strategically enhance the WTS's own publications ?

The WTS's leaders got a bit lucky with WWI starting out in 1914, this particularly event set the stage for making many spurious end times, last days doctrines, an self supporting exploitation with commercialism hidden at its core.
