They were still God's channel but they were imperfect that day. Still if you were alive back then you had to believe it 100% even if you could show that it was false from the bible. Today you have to believe everything coming from the GB even if it's as trivial as tight pants and where you take the family for vacation. -

"Thanks guys for appointing me but you went well beyond the intent of the scriptures." - Tony Morris III commenting on the actions of previous members of the GB

The GB still don't answer the question:
Was it God that got things wrong, or was the society never Gods mouthpiece to begin with?

"It was the TRUTH then, but I am sorry to say that they were wrong about some things. It is the TRUTH now and I am happy to say that I am right about everything!"- A.M. III

In context, he was talking about the early 1900s. He says: "In the early 1900s, the focus was on preaching the good news. Little attention was given to building strong Christian marriages and families. For a time, marriage was even discouraged, well beyond the intent of the scriptures."

They went "beyond the scriptures" in just about everything. Pretty much just making things up. Including the claim of being picked to be God's reps on Earth. That's a polite way to say they were wrong and had no business telling anyone such foolish non-existent things.
Biblically speaking there's no such thing as "God's earthly organization". It's simply a way for some to to Lord over other believers in Christ; a kind of priest/laity hierarchy. Nicolatians of sorts.
Christ has a Congregation/Church but that is every Christian on earth, not just one group of them.
They need to just stick with the Bible in CONTEXT and stop jumping around scriptures and half scriptures in a state of perpetual confusion.

They went "well beyond the intent of the scriptures"???!!!
Why are you listening to people who go "well beyond the intent of the scriptures???
Tell me, JWs.... are you going to have to wait for another 100 years to hear how they again are now going "well beyond the intent of the scriptures" !!!???
Remember.... if you question them/ the Borg.... you are dead to them.
You lose all, they get all.... but, they 'go well beyond the intent of the scriptures'....
Say that to yourselves a few times... "well beyond the intent of the scriptures."

Let's not forget of TOMOs advise to elders penned down and approved by the executive board.
It's a prime example of going beyond the things written:
"A sound rule is found in the words of the apostle Paul: “Do not go beyond the things that are written.” (1 Cor. 4:6) Elders do not go beyond the things that are written in the Bible. And by extension, they do not go beyond the Bible-based counsel written in the publications of the faithful and discreet slave."

Perhaps the GB has realized that discouragsting marriage has resulted in fewer born-in members.
As the quality of converts continues to deteriorate in the industrial nations, they will need more in-house congregants to keep the organization viable.
With the greatest growth occurring in poor third world countries, their finances will take a major hit unless they increase membership in more affluent regions.

The Watchtower is 'master of it's own demise.' It's just a matter of time. And that time grows short.
Watchtower will not survive the next economic shock, a shock only hinted at by the events of 2007-2008.
Next up... when the buildings are sold in NY, the money will not be spoken of. Asking about it will be likened to apostasy.
