I awoke gradually. At first i believed the religion is true but not all of the doctrines are. I believed that for about a year then i believed that the GB should not be taken as gospel, and to take what they say with a pinch of salt. I wonder how many JDubs are going through those same stages? Because what came next after seeing the UN letter was a spiral that lead me to research outside sources, I was so angry at being lied to. What else where they not telling us? The rabbit hole is deep.

It's called waking up because the whole thing was a nightmare.

When you're asleep and dreaming, you don't know you're dreaming (for most people, most of the time) but when you wake up it becomes immediately obvious what the dream was and you're certain that you're awake. I think this is a pretty solid analogy.

Also, once you leave the cult you get a whole new perspective on the real world - you're no longer looking at it through the filter of the cult and can see everything in full color. Just like dreams (at least for me) often have diluted/washed out/greyscale color to them and hazy details, then you wake up and the world snaps into full vivid detail.

The origin is very simple. You’ve been living in a dream world. You wake to up to the obviousness of the truth.

Waking up involves sleep. Sleep is a good thing. Sleep refreshes and rejuvenates, occassionaly with some bad dreams. But sleep is essential for every living thing(AS I know of)

Sober is a term I like better. Cult is a place where you get drugged , intoxicated, dull minded, hallucinated or cannot think properly. Once Sober you start to think in reality and in clear terms.

They are asleep as to the facts of their cult. To wake up is to be aware.

It's amazing what you'll realize if you just allow yourself to consider the option that WT is wrong. Once that option no longer scares you, you can read the WT and Awake and see that they are full of half truths and propaganda. That WT uses emotional manipulation to keep it's members in line. Of course, WT has trained members to never consider this option and that only cynical or hard headed ones would do so. JWs are trained to find fault in everything: politics, mainstream Christianity, charities, business, romance, holidays. Everything except WT.
