At this assembly, attendance the first day was 58,000, the second was 70,000. From the photos it appears to be a soccer stadium, also has track and field, quite large.

Like others have said, I too did not think the organization had these huge conventions anymore - they certainly don't in the West.

Wait till they actually have to shun a family member or they do something shunworthy themselves....then it's game-on as far as how much they really understand what this western religion is all about .

That country have enough problems without the help of JW's. A few years down the road this will be another country that hate our guts for destroying families....I wish the U.S.A ambassador to Kenya inform the officials these folks do not represent our country, they walk a different step then most Americans.....

Kenya was one of the Country`s that was held up as an example of phenomenal growth over 30 years ago in the yearbook .

And it is still attracting such growth ?

I`m amazed that the country isn`t Gods established Kingdom on Earth a true Theocracy., surely there shouldnt be a worldly person living their now.

Zambia is the most JWfied country on the planet. Something like 1 in 20 people attend the memorial there. If that happened in the UK there would be over 3 million at the memorial, more than ten times the number that actually attends.

If you live in a country with poverty, bad government and a poorly functioning welfare, religion looks like a respectable source of hope.

The means by which JWs validate their presence in the world is by numbers of believers. The more people persuaded by the org to join them, the stronger the case for their existence.

It would be interesting to uncover the motives of those baptized who are drawn from a culture which is not generally critical of religious sects. Most faiths are acceptable because for the majority of Africans, it is socially demanded to be a believer in God hence religion is still a way of life.
