    LUHE: Mercury has a nighttime temperature of MINUS 290 F or -180 degr. centigrade.

    Venus' slow retrograde rotation helps the roasting too. She turns like the truly original planetary gear. or ball in a ball bearing.

    The solar system is a ball game. 9+ holes in one.

    Yes, Pluto will always be the ninth planet to me.

    BT: and to the hidden one who sneakily might be setting all this up. because

    Pluto is the only body occupying the 388 position in the Bode doubling sequence.* nailing that " hole in one " scenario.

    Neptune is not, bsw.

    * 4, 7, 10, 16, 28, 52, 100, 196, 388.

    Planetary orbit distances (between semi major axes) in AU:

    Venus to Earth +.3; Earth (1. 0) 100% accuracy of course

    to Mars 2x.3 +.6; 5% accuracy

    to asteroids +1.2;

    to Jupiter +2.4; with .003% accuracy !!! 80% of planetary mass.

    to Saturn(100) +4.8;

    to Uranus (19. 6) + 9.6;

    to Pluto +2x9.6 or +19.2 AU results in 38.8 with 2 %accuracy

    Pluto's place is prominent. provisionally permanent.

    Yes, indeed, LoveUni...the Solar System, and by extension, our known Universe, or Cosmos are both amazing. However, expanding upon the post by pistolpete...Looking at that photo taken by Hubble Space Telescope, it causes one to wonder---not matter what one's concepts or ideas are or aren't, of God, Allah, YHWH, Jesus, Buddha---or of theism or atheism or agnosticism---doesn't it make you stop to wonder---what are all of those known, discovered galaxies doing "out there"? I mean, why are they "there"? Why do they exist? What's their purpose? Is their purpose just so that puny, little human beings on this planet, in this corner of the Milky Way Galaxy can look at them by telescopes and ask these kind of questions that I'm asking? I wonder. Oh, I suppose that you could say that such questions need to be answered by the philosophers and theologians and religionists. Perhaps such questions should be left for the Philosophy/Theology Department. But, still.....Best Regards, all

    Titch.

    doesn't it make you stop to wonder---what

    t: makes you wonder how is it that the possible creator of that immensity is pictured in the bible as walking in the garden in the breezy paty of the day, bellyaching because of--.

    Wt believers totally and I mean absolutely underestimate the stature of such a being. or:

    has the solar system, the universe created itself? even energy, out of which the universe was made, can not be created. or destroyed.

    Waton, the Titius-Bode law is intriguing to me, but Neptune always sits there as a big fat gassy giant spoiler. Because of Neptune, the jamming in of Ceres as a planet (or simply counting the asteroid belt as a planet... kinda weak) and the fact that the Bode law doesn't explain the "why" of anything, I tend to think of it as a mathematical coincidence with a degree of fudge rather than an actual law.

    But, I could be wrong.

    In any event it doesn't matter; my feelings about Pluto are more emotional than logical. Eris is nearly as large and probably just as strange, but it wasn't known in my childhood days when I first learned about our solar system. When Eris was eventually discovered, it seemed to be part of the reason Pluto was demoted. Booo! Down with Eris! Go away spoiler.

    ...now, that Planet X / Planet Nine? If that baby EVER shows up some day, then we might be talking a whole different story...

    BT right. certainly not a universal law. not observed in any of the exo planet systems so far.

    Neptune's position exactly between Uranus and Pluto at 9,6 AU for the establishing of a lower 3 and upper 96 limit to the geometric progression of the Bode sequence.

    ( the innermost and outermost planets are equisistant).

    Bode / Titius is a 9 place coincidence, ? is the universe old enough to allow for that? lucky us,

    . because stability is made from resonances like that.

    Think of the planet spacings as wavelengths, the ecliptic as a Chladni plate.

    Have you ever wondered why aliens don’t seem to visit our solar system? It’s because they’ve read the reviews: only one star!

    Venus's day is longer than its year.

    Interesting post, Brock Talon.

    And here's a NASA photo of the surface of Pluto …

    Here's a video showing surface photos of Mars.

    ^^^ Pretty amazing!

    Plus, the Martian sunset at the end of the vid … Martian sunsets are apparently blue rather than our red sunsets here on Earth. And the view of Earth in the Martian sky! Beautiful!!
