Will soon be discussing w/ somebody still in about that. I want to make sure I am not missing anything good. So any scriptures, articles whether WT articles or secular about effects of shunning, etc, or your arguments against how WT interprets their scriptures, etc.
Can you prove that WT policy of shunning is unscriptual? Will soon be discussing with somebody, give me all your ammo!

The way I look at it Christians are suppose to be followers of Christ. I don't ever recall any examples where Jesus actually shunned anyone; only Paul came up with shunning as far as I can see and we are not suppose to be followers of Paul (man).

Matthew chapter 5 Jesus no to shunning, then the Wt likes to use 1john chapter 2 I think to not talk to anyone that doesn't share the same message etc but if one backs up in the chapter you'll see the message is Christ. You can go on and show in the first chapter of Galatians that one is cursed if not preaching Christ and 1corithians chapter 15 show exactly in detail what the good news of the kingdom is. Christ died was ressurected etc.. So not to shun unless one is denying Christ except Jesus says other wise and says to just treat Unbelievers as men of the nations Matthew 15 I believe. -

The onus is to prove that shunning IS scriptural, not the other way around.
That having been said,

As JWFacts notes, shunning was condemned by WTS in 1947, but then copied RC in 1952.
Also, in WT August 1, 1974, there was a fairly balanced article on not being fanatical shunners.
Divine Mercy Points the Way Back for Erring Ones
Maintaining a Balanced Viewpoint Toward Disfellowshiped OnesThe Ray Franz' and others' "revolt" in Brooklyn led to the 1981 position that has been vigourously applied since.

January 8, 1947 awake says "excommunication" is a pagan practice that finds no support in the bible.
The insight book, vol.1, under EXPELLING, says excommunication = disfellowshipping.
According to their own mouths, their disfellowshipping practice is pagan and NOT supported by the bible.

It is antithetical to basic Christian teachings. Shunning is what authorarian religious leaders of the first century did. Jesus did the opposite.

Here's an article I wrote some time ago offering a more biblically sound understanding of the Bible texts most used by the JWs to support their shunning doctrine:

I always ask 2 questions:
1.) Where in the bible I can find, that elders can speak with DF persons and other JWs not?
2.) Where in the bible I can find, that I can eat with my DF child, if it is living in my house and I can not if he/she has a different ZIP-Code?

There's a lot of stuff not in the Bible which the Borg enforces. Maybe it's because it does not have God's backing.
