This "overlapping annointed" idea was to cover our tracks for the 1914 "generation", which we used to keep the hype going post-1975. Problem is, now the annointed are increasing we're realizing that the "144,000" isn't literal. Each new "solution" creates another problem, you know what I mean?

Fred Franz was the brain child behind the whole 1975 nonsense. As president of the Watchtower Society, he encouraged the promotion of 1975 as a 'possibility' that the end 'might' come that year

I understand where minimus is coming from; however, in my opinion, it's more about damage control. 1975 keeps popping up on various sites like a bad penny. 1975 will always be there as another reminder that THEY (GB) got it wrong back then and they are getting things wrong today eg blood policy, shunning policy, JW's are the only true religion etc etc etc

The org. is trying to be a little honest. The 1975 date has leaked out. It's no longer an apostasy. They started it but won't admit it.
This is being spoken about to the friends just in case they heard rumors, so they are going to put this rumor to rest and move on. Did they apologize? No, it's the friends fault.
I think since that article that said they are not inspired, has silently woken up a few, they won't leave but now the seed has been planted. Now the only way that seed of doubt will grow if someone steps on the silent awakened friend, then they come here.
There will be those in the audience that was around for the 1975 craze, and they were an adult. Most Jw's have low esteem of themselves so many of them will take the blame for misunderstanding and that's so very sad.
The org. reflects our gov't in the United States.... Kaos. People just don't believe in leaders/GB's anymore.
If they really want the friends to really stick with them. Admit THE ORG. is wrong.... the friends eat that kind of stuff up. Now that's good PR.

1) the committed workers did everything to "hasten the day" divest, pioneering, move to where the "need is great"
2) the Enjoyers, even bought stuff, life styles on credit , that they thought they would never have to repay, or recuperate.
3) the now labelled "spiritually strong" hedging their bets, within the org. did everything, maneuvered to come out of the debacle, the inevitable fallout ... ahead of the game. or
variations of the above, like the types that divested and bought a pad in the location where it would be nice to start life in paradise, and overseers were needed too.

My wife and I were 'out' in the mid 1960's a few years later I heard about the 1975 prediction. However we were far more concerned about Vietnam then something as silly as 1975.
We got on with our lives, rebuilding, getting more education, earning a living, making new friends, getting ignored by our still-in families.

It is amazing they brought this date up at all. I think this date is still popping up a bit, but I also think these guys are just so out of touch with reality that they think this is still the main issue for people leaving.

More than 144 000 partakers before 2075? of course, it is not that the number is not literal, it is that the whole Other Sheep, partaking, "Israel of God" definition is wrong, and irrelevant. stay spiritually strong!
