Many JW's are fine with shunning - IF the individual involved is NOT a family member or close friend.
But I think many JWs are NOT fine with shunning non-family members, but they are scared sh!tless that they will be drug into a JC themselves if they are caught associating with anyone DFd. Another example of how WT controls using FEAR.
