Just for fun I asked this used book store clerk if she had the book crisis of conscience. She knew exactly what I was talking about and she said she was asked for it quite regularly. Unfortunately she didn't have it at the time.

The copyright is life of the author + 25-50 years. In the US it's life plus 70 years or 95 or 120 years, depending on the nature of authorship.
Not sure when Franz died but it will be at least another century if the corporations don't get any further extensions (Disney makes sure the copyright gets extended every few decades).
